LCG IV - Sat. morning BREAKFAST

Postby oklahomajewel » Tue Oct 06, 2009 8:31 pm

Saturday morning breakfast at Rayvillian's site # 58.
Casual and not required, we know some folks sleep late or don't really do breakfast , and that's fine.
But last year we cooked a bunch , and I think we ran out of food! haha

Here's the info and plan:

Me, Trudy & Kathy have waffle irons . So we can keep a lot of waffles going. PM me if you could bring squeeze butter. Glenn is bringing the maple syrup.

Trudy is bringing 4 large bundt Amish breakfast cakes.
Gary is going to make 2 14-inch DO's of cinnamon rolls.
Steve is bringing a tres leches cake breakfast cake.

Trudy is going to try for 5 DO Mountain Man casseroles. NOTE: She said they will likely go into town Friday for the eggs, potatoes, cheese, etc.
PM Rayvillian if you want to help with those casseroles.

Phil & I will be supplying Biscuits and gravy. They were a hit last year.

Jeff is bringing some pear butter and preserves. yumm!

Larry and Macey said they plan on cooking about 20 lbs of bacon.

Grani and Mike are bringing juice.

Dave L and Darren , between them I think we'll have coffee covered. 60 cups plus!

If anyone else wants to contribute, see the needs above but we do need some fruit and juices

And it will be chilly that morning, so if a couple of guys could mind the fire that would be great!!!

Thank you !
I just thought some would like to know .. and with a big breakfast like this I don't plan on much for lunch!

 - Just thinking out loud - Why don't we go a little greener this year. By green I mean, let's try to provide our own plates and utensils. Sure the foam ones are convenient but usually we bring our own plates when camp right? Everyone brings a chair, right? Sooo - bring along that favorite plate too!. Bring that old favorite mug too. Maybe you don't want the stigma of carrying back a dirty plate to you campsite - but along the way you could say to those who stare, "Sure missed a good one!" That sure would cut down on the trash Load for that weekend at the state park.  Just a thought

Scott... I certainly applaud that idea! I like using my own plate anyway (don't tell everyone..,. but it holds more!) haha

I'll have to ask those doing the coffee, but I'm thinking they will supply sugar and sweetner .

I'll try to pick up some REAL MAPLE syrup.

I also agree with the sentiment of avoiding foam plates. Styrofoam is not recyclable, and it does not degrade in a landfill. If campers prefer throw-away plates, at least go with paper, which is recyclable and degradable.

Like that idea bring your own plate chair and stuff. I think with all the food mentioned I may just have to bring a platter so it will sit on my lap better.

In girl scouts we had 3 tubs of water - one hot to wash, one with a little bleach (I think) and one clear to rinse. Eveybody had a mesh bag to put your utensils in to dunk. Any other scouts out there?

I had talked to Gary & Trudy uP at Cloudcroft NM, about sharing some tres leches cake
at the Saturday morning gathering. Seems there is going to be quite a
bit of food ~ but the cake goes well with coffee.

Julie, I think they come in 24 packs. I made close to 100 last year and all got eaten. Most were actually eaten on Sat. morning. Could have used 3 times as much gravey too.

You all have fun.

 You may find them getting gone before they can get them warm. I was working on an idea to put an electric hot plate in a box with racks. Maybe add a bit of moisture. All you really need is to take the chill off.
