T, I always do and recommend predrilling all exterior screw holes and applying a dab of sealant IN the hole before inserting the screw...good to know the majority of the swelling has gone down...

Baby medicine syringes work great to get stuff in those holes. For larger needs you can go to a farm supply store and get horse needles.......

Yeah, I predrilled and I rolled the screws in titebond before screwing them in, I just didn't seal the out side once they were screwed in for the sides and I guess I just didn't seal the endgrain good enough on the doors and door jambs.

That is great news that the swelling from the water has all but disappeared.

I know you mentioned using TB II in the screw holes. I don't know that TB II is water-resistant. I believe you used Sikaflex or something like that for your trim. You may want to squeeze a dap of that down into the holes. I have used Super Glue - the CA glue, but I can't spell what the chemical is - before to strengthen the wood around a hole for a screw. That stuff really absorbs into the wood. Don't use the gel-type though. It will just clump up.

I'm with Tom about the Titebond, I wouldn't trust it's water resistance in that application. I used an elastomeric sealant in all my screw holes. It's flexible just in case you have a little give.

Hmmmm…..I have a farm supply 2 miles from here. I’m going to look into that idea for myself! Some of the most inventive people on earth are right here on this forum, ready to volunteer wonderful ideas!

Yeah I like that needle to glue and clamp idea and the sealant idea in the screw holes too! The fill-it is going to go on all the end grains for sure though.

Is it strange that I want to go camping this holiday weekend ? still trying to decide, I know I should be working on it though... Maybe just another 1 nighter... I got home today and it looks totally saveable, I was REALLY worried I was gonna have an all black aluminum teardrop for a while there.

I was really surprised at how much we used the camper this summer, and how much I enjoy it. I was a little worried I would have a let down after completing the build...So go for it!!!

I was really surprised at how much we used the camper this summer, and how much I enjoy it. I was a little worried I would have a let down after completing the build...So go for it!!!

I want to camp every two weeks if I can, even if it is just one night two nights is preferable for a working week but I'll take what I can get! Even despite the snafu's from this past weekend I just thought it was simply great that I hooked up the teardrop, filled up the cooled and the gas tank and I was OFF and running! When we got there, it was raining insanely so we just jumped in, no power nothing and cranked up the battery lanterns and had a great time. I just love the no-set up factor if it absolutely has to be that way.

I DO have an easy up by the way, and used it at the last gathering, but there was just no way in the world I could have set it up in that torrential rain... Luckily my heavy tarp did wonders, where the easy up would have surely blown over.

Camping would be so much easier with a teardrop than with a tent that one night wouldn't be so bad. You can go early on Saturday and take it down as late as possible on Sunday and not feel like you've spent most of your time setting up/taking down and packing. You also save one night's park rent that way, too!

Of course, this weekend is "Christopher's gift" of a long weekend, a good opportunity to go right after work on Friday night and stay through Monday afternoon! This time, you'll probably have some better weather and lots of lookie-loons. Enjoy!

Yeah, Like last weekend there was ZERO setup! I would like to spend the whole weekend out there, but I have work to do to it, and I have a wedding Sat morning, and a work party that night, so that kinda cuts my weekend in half. A one nighter is ok with me though! I might be out there pulling trim and laying down epoxy while I am there haha!
