Hello northern lower MI

I've been lurking a while. Started a generic Benroy, 5x10. The frame is done. I have some 1.5" rigid insulation on hand that I plan to sandwich between luan. I'm not sure how to trim where the hatch and side walls meet when the wall much thicker than the plan. Suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm thinking about the transition from 2"wall to .75" wall if that would concentrate any stress on the wall to that line. I've thought of a sort of rabbet joint where a .75" portion of the side wall sticks up the heighth of the hatch.

Hi Dave,

Welcome to the forum.

You can use 1.5" insulation. And if I lived up there I would probably consider it.

As for trimming where the hatch and the sidewalls meet, use the same method as in the Generic Benroy plans, just let the hatch skin overhang farther.

On page 57 I state that the hatch will be 58" wide. Well, if you are making the walls 2" instead of 1/2", everything will have to be adjusted.

The hatch will be 55" wide instead of 58"

The overhang (see page 59) will be 2 3/4 instead of 1 1/4.

Hope that helps. Holler if you need a quick sketch on a napkin.
