Cold in Finland

Postby Classic Finn » Thu Oct 01, 2009 9:57 am

Very Cold here in Finland. Scraped the frost off the windshield already for the 3rd time. Along with it we have very dangerous black ice on the highways and ramps.

Studded tires must be on November 1st. However we are going to change them within the next day or 2. Weve received snow already in Northern Finland.

Time to dig out the thick sweaters, long johns and wool socks. ;)

Most likely have permanent snow here by the end of this month.

Darkness is setting in upon which we,ll have for the next 6 months. Aint that a treat.

Only a few hours of daylight each day.

hey Cap'n, are studded tires required there? They're optional where I live and I use them, but illegal in a few states.

we still have a while before any noticeable snow falls here, and at least we get to see it in the daylight :snowstorm:

:o You can only use studded snow tires when there is ice on the roads here. They tear up the pavement. Really too much trouble for the few weeks we get ice or snow that stays around.

You batten down and come to talk to us more..........

We had 16 degree temp on Monday. Not too cold yet, but I won't have to wait too long for minus degrees. Oh well, life goes on.

After setting record highs in September (30c+) we too are seeing a bit of snow and cold already :(

I guess it's coming early so hopefully spring will be early too.

D.J. it looks like you got it bad compared to us.

At least we get more than a few hours of daylight.

Hey Classic Finn , the guys at work are complaining because its getting dark at 6:00 pm ( I guess we shouldn’t ) 3hours of sun ...can you say seasonal affective disorder !

Its been cold at night here -2c there was ice on the little ponds outside of town and snow on the mountain ( hills to some ) its coming !!

If any one likes long hours , little sleep and crappy pay I have 3 malls a Home Depot , 4 shopping plazas , 2 hotels , a Hospital , a Medical clinic , 30Km of subdivision and about 20 little spots around town we plow (I over see / monitor ) I need equipment operators , truck drivers ...OH and shovelers ..

Got to love the 20 to 30 hour days ...Any takers ????
Dave
