Mounting Torflex to frame

Hello,
My frame is almost finished and my axle should be in soon and I'm wondering if I should try to bolt the torflex axle to the frame for serviceablity or if it is allright to weld it to the frame. I was kinda thinking bolting thru the 2x2 square tube frame with crush sleeves welded in and then a few stitch welds to the mounting brackets. Does this seem like overkill? Thanks.

My Torflex axle is bolted to the frame. I did this in case I needed to move it for better balance after the build was complete

I ran this question by Andrew on my build that I'm starting, using a flexiride axle 2K rated. I'm using .120 2x2 tube and he just suggested a flat plate on the top to spread out the bolt pressure, nothing about the crush tubes, can't hurt though. Bolt up only, no welds. This build will be a standy with a weight of ~1400#. Doug

***FLASH***I believe they make a bracket, which welds to the frame and then the axle bolts up to it...a much better way than bolting thru the frame or welding...I have done it both ways and the weld-on brackets are the way to go.......

Overkill? It will buy you piece of mind.....

I did the "through the 2 X 2 box" bolt on with a torque flex in 2006, and checked the bolts every stop for about a year. They never were a problem, but the installation lacked piece of mind. I like your crush sleeve idea.

So the bracket is a piece of 2x2 angle with a notch cut out of it? Seems very convienent but for me it leaves somthing to be desired in the beef department. If thats the route I go I'll just make those. I realy would like to bolt thru the frame but I don't know how well a carriage bolt will work inside the sleeve and with a standard hex bolt I would need holes in the floor if I ever had to take the axle off. The axle won't be here for another week or two so I guess I have time to think about it.

Maybe these pics will help. Dexter provides a mounting base to which the axle bolts on. It is designed to be welded on. I think you could skip the mounting base and bolt it on directly, if that's your choice....Dave

Matt, those are the bracket I referred to...they are plenty beefy and yes, you havvta order them...when ordered at the same time as the axle, they come as shown in Dave's pic...........
