Memory Foam Closeout Sale!

Postby CAJUN LADY » Tue Oct 13, 2009 11:52 am

I got an email today from Nancy Kroes with the National Serro Scotty Organization about the low price of this memory foam. I ordered a 4" full size memory foam mattress topper today for $59.00 and shipping was only $13.60 to my office. This is a closeout sale so once it's gone, it's gone (per the sales guy I spoke with). They also have RV mats but there are a few that are out of stock. Don't know if they will get those in or not (I didn't ask). I should receive it by Monday/Tuesday. I'll let you know how I like it. I paid over $200 for the 4" queen size from Knox Foam a couple of years ago. Nancy said she ordered a 4" full size foam mattress today and she already got a shipped notice! Pretty fast service!

Hey thanks... I need a whole new bed in mine ... It is gonna be about $150 to get a thick foam.

With the 4 inch memory foam, are you putting it over something else???? Or sleeping on just the 4 inches???

Thanks !
Julie

Julie,

How ya doin?

4 inches might be too thin to sleep on with memory foam. But, I could be wrong. And, it could also depend on the firmness of what it is sitting on. From what I understand, many memory foam mattresses are roughly 8 inches thick. And, many are made of denser foam on the bottom with the top 2-4 inches using a less dense foam. In light of what I just mentioned, here is my story.

I needed to replace my king-size bed that got damaged when I moved last year. So, prior to my back surgery and in light of my long term need for a hospital type of bed, I got two Twin XL adjustable beds (the two, side-by-side, make it into a king-sized bed like I had before…and when I’m not alone, I put a king-sized top sheet on so no one falls between the two beds ;) ). Anyway…In discussing mattress options with the adjustable bed manufacturer, I mentioned that I already had two king-sized Serta 4" memory foam mattress toppers with one being a little denser than the other. His response was to create my own mattress by cutting both toppers in half to create two Twin XL pieces each. He said to put the denser foam on the bottom 4" with a blanket in-between (for added firmness) then put the slightly less dense topper on the top, which gave me a typical 8" total thickness. I then put it inside a nice, cushy mattress pad that covered the sides and went underneath the mattresses so it kept everything together. I also put on 1,200 TC Egyptian Cotton sheets, of course. This set up has worked like a charm...and saved me a huge amount of money by not having to buy two hospital bed memory foam type of mattresses. My point is that if you don’t want to buy a complete 8” memory foam mattress, you might be able to make one for yourself much cheaper out of two 4" toppers.

In my teardrop, I am using the Little Guy king-sized foam (not memory) mattress that came with the trailer and then I put a 2" Serta memory foam topper on top of that along with a cushy mattress pad (heated separately on both sides, of course, for the upcoming Winter Shiveree in Indiana. Julie, hope you can make it!). While that only gives me 6" of total thickness, it is pretty comfortable...nearly as comfortable as at home … although I only have 600 TC Egyptian Cotton sheets ;) .

FYI: The only reason I have mentioned Serta a couple times is that I trust that brand name. I have purchased a total of 5 Serta toppers in the past two years for myself and others and have always liked the Serta brand. With each purchase, I got them from Overstock.com when they had special pricing.

I already have a semi firm 4" foam mattress that was in the Teardrop and I'm going to put this one on top. That should make it perfect to sleep on. I had put a couple of foam egg crate topers on it before but they are a pain to deal with when making the bed.

I'll take a picture or two once I get it. It shipped out today.

That's an excellent tip Karl, thanks. I took my LG trifold mattress out as soon as I got the trailer home... (waaaay too soft). I've been very happy with a combination of two memory foam mattress pads, the one on the bottom is a 4 inch dual density mattress, and I have another 1.5 topper on top of that. Total thickness 5 1/2 inches. Juuuuust about perfect, but I always said another inch of firm support underneath would do me good. Looks like putting a blanket in between will do exactly what I want. ..... Scott G.

Scott,
Glad that helped. This was not the typical way of making a mattress but it worked pretty well.
