110 Question

Hi Folks,

I am into my restoration of a '47 Kitt about 1 month now and have the frame ready for the completed floor.

Questions is:

I am not savvy on wiring and electric. This is going to be just a basic camping set-up for my son and I. I just want to run a small 110 v reading light, a small fan for warm nights and a small heater for cool nights and the occassional magic bullet for my margaritas.

Can I just use a good 50 or 75 foot extension cord hooked up to a surge protector with multiple outlets to plug these things into? I will only be camping at campgrounds with 110v power and nowhere else.

If this is acceptable, how has anyone set-up the extension cord through the wall of the TD for use inside the TD?

Yes It's been done many times. Cheap and easy.

Where are the plugs coming from and going to? What is that in the middle of the wall? It is a breaker???

Is the unit on the floor the only plugs that I will have access to for what I want to plug, i.e., light, fan, heater, blender???

Orange extension cord exits into rear galley to be plugged into shore power. Unit on wall is Ground fault indicator, 6 plug outlet on floor. Other wires exiting thru partition are for galley

Do I absolutely need to add the ground fault indicater?

Are the cords running to the galley connected to other strips with more power outlets? How many power outlets can I connect to the main strip?

I cut the plug off drilled a hole in the floor ran the cord thru and put a replacement end on.

There are those that will tell you you will fry .... you will die.... or you will burn your beloved tear to the ground. I am about to start year 3 and none of these have happened!



That black and white spec behind the tire is the new male plug in !

GFI for safety as you have no grounded system. The plugs to galley are for specific items; no more outlet strips.

With 6 outlets, you could simply unplug unused items and plug in what you are using. You might want to run another extension, but beware of overloading the wiring; gFI is not a breaker.

Thank you for the input and for all your help. New to this type of work. I'll put some pics up. Today just finished cutting out my sides and work on the doors tomorrow.

On the last comment. How do I hook up this thing for the power inlet? Does it go on the side of the TD? If so, how do I hook it up inside to my extension cords?

1. Lights
2. Fantastic Fan in ceiling
3. Koolatron Krusader cooler with 12v plug (also has electric plug)
4. Coleman Hot Water on Demand (has it's own battery, but I may need to recharge it on occasion).
3. Cell phone chargers (either car plug or regular electric)
4. Little fan on hot days (electric)
5. Warming blanket (12v) on cool nights

So, if I have two 6v golf cart batteries, and I want to be able to charge them via electricity at so-equipped campsite, what do I need to put in my trailer?

I'm so confused about inverters, inverter/chargers, converters, and confounded amps and watts. I've read the threads and my brain refuses to comprehend. Can someone just tell me how to do it? I feel like Diane Keaton in Baby Boom when she says, "I want to turn the handle on the faucet and water comes out; I don't want to know where it comes from!"

In my opinion, the simplest thing would be to put a battery (or 2 with the 6V ones) and wire everything for 12V. You can get 12V outlets to wire in too. Then just use an extention cord and regular battery charger for the batteries when 120VAC is available.

Well.....since you all think its that easy to set up a TD for 110. Does anyone have a plan or pics to put in plugs and lights for a TD using 110 only?
