Any Air Force, jet eng., CIA interest?

Postby Lesbest » Thu Oct 15, 2009 9:59 pm

Found an interesting web site about the CIA and the U.S. spyplane story. U2, Y12 and the SR71, some pretty neat stories about Nevada.

HUGE SR-71 enthusiast here.

Not only was this an incredible aircraft, but it was an incredible program of teamwork and dedication.

I'm not so much into the CIA end of things... I geek out over the high performance aviation technology and the southwestern region where most top secret flight test occurs.

Thanks for the URL... I'll check that out when my teardrop fever abates some.

5 mins later...

Roadrunners Nationale .com

Usually, removing the spaces and putting the Caps into lowercase and adding http://ww w... will work.

But that and a Google search doesn't yield much at all. Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks!

I was fortunate to see a U-2 land and take off at a air show in Stockton, CA in the early 80's. I have worked many airshows and that was the only time I had seen one fly. I only got to see my first SR-71 when I toured the Pima Air and Space museum in Tucson about 10 years ago. A couple of years ago I was given a sneak preview of the next presidential helicopter, first joint country built helicopter for a US president. It was at the old George Air Force base near Gage's home. Now called Southern California Logistics Airport in Victorville, California

We had a U-2 (or some variant) at a base near where I grew up in FL. Watching them takeoff is very different. Seems like they pop straight up when they rotate.

Top Secret Site!

Postby Cody Pendant » Fri Oct 16, 2009 11:04 am

Wow, its so top secret that even the all knowing "Google" descent know where it is.
:?
This is all a little too Area 51'ish for me.

Personally I am going to deny ever knowing about any of this.

My Stepfather was a huge fan of the SR-71. An avid pilot, (Mooney) his group invited a SR-71 pilot to speak at one of there dinner clubs. fasinating stuff. They have one on display at the Richmond International Airport here in...... Richmond, VA.

Just a few of blocks away. Use to fly over the house all the time. SR-71's and U-2's, even now the F-117's.

Air Force Interest

Postby Mrs Rayvillian » Fri Oct 16, 2009 4:29 pm

I grew up as an Air Force brat ... my dad retired after 30 years. He flew B-52s ... what an awesome plane. I remember watching those huge planes doing touch and go landings. Then I went to work for FedEx ... got to fly jumpseat in the cockpit a lot on business trips. Also worked at a couple of the airshows in KC. We live close to Whiteman Air Force Base and see the Stealth bombers fly over a lot in KC. After retiring from FedEx ... went to work for a couple of years at Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington MO and the Apache helicopters out of Whiteman would come and pickup the cadets. Also while working for FedEx ... Air Force One would come to the overhaul base at the KC airport ... and got to watch doing take off and landings. Needless to say ... next to traveling around the country in our Winter Warrior ... plane watching is one of my favorite things. Trudy

Opps, sorry for the spelling mistake---and thank you for correcting it---really kind of like dangling the carrot in front of ya.

Again sorry--but the site does have some incredible stats, and its from 40 years ago!!

Wonder whats happening now we don't know about?
