Now What?

Postby thomaspryan » Fri Oct 16, 2009 12:26 pm

Hi All,

The wife and I recently sold our 1977 VW Campmobile and bought a teardrop to pull behind our Dodge Magnum.

We discovered teardops while (you guessed it) camping. Met a nice couple who were more than happy to show off their new Camp-Inn Classic and we fell in love (with the teardrop). No more double-decker camping!

Our new teardrop is a one-off 5x8 that we are now tailoring to our own tastes and preferences. Fortunately, we found one that was very well made at a price that we could afford.

We learned a ton on VW forums (http://www.thesamba.com/vw/) and this one for teardrops looks just as robust.

Glad we found you...

VW Campmobile

My bus (named Huxley) was a great ride, but I just couldn't get past the paranoia of having a breakdown while on an extended trip to the middle of nowhere (never happened - phew).

Fortunately, MOPAR dealers are a dime a dozen. Unfortunately, vintage VW parts and mechanics are not.

I'll stick with the TD and leave the VW bus camping to the more adventurous. I will admit, however, that we were an attraction at every campground we pulled into. I expect we'll get the same reaction pulling the TD, unless I'm at a TD gathering.

Nope, it will be worse at a teardrop gathering. Some folks regular camping are hesitant "interrupt" you, although they do anyway! Nope, we teardroppers want to see everyone's rig and aren't afraid to ask and stop by! Way more tours at gathering than regular camping! 8) Who built your beauty? Looks very well made and very attractive!

thomaspryan,
You will get tons of attention even at a Teardrop Gathering. Lol. We did. By fellow Teardroppers and other Campers. We stop to pump gas we attract a crowd, restraunt patrons are trying to take a peek at the inside. Make sure you keep your doors locked while dining. Lol. :vroom: But we dont mind we love showing it off.
Enjoy,
Bill and Marijo
Hope to see you on the road.
