Look what I found!

I found this yesterday while walking around an antique store. Decided I had to have it!

Cleaned it up and re seasoned it. Any ideas who made it? The only identifying mark on it is the "10" on the bottom. Other characteristics that might help is the foot by the handle is skewed compared to the other two. The handle connection has an interesting support web.

Here's the kicker... $26!

It's called a spider skillet. They had tripod legs to get the pan up off the floor of the fireplace when cooking prior to the cast iron stoves. It could be fairly old if it's an original, like pre-1900. Wonder what's up with that funky leg at the handle though. I don't know enough to maybe supply a maker or even suggest one. Doug

I knew it was a spider and it was in such good shape I had to get it. Then I found out the price and almost threw the cash at him. Ran out quick before he changed his mind!

Can you see a gate mark on the bottom of the pan? Maybe post a better picture of the bottom.

I can't see any marks of any kind on the bottom other than the "10".

The pan looks like it's from the 20th century with no gate mark. Some pans were made well into the 1930s or later with gate marks so such a mark can't be used to date too closely. Some of the southern foundries made these spiders into the 20s and later and some are being made today I think but not sure where from. You're unlikely to determine makers of most early and/or unmarked pieces. Just cook in and enjoy.
