Hello from Columbia, MO... Go Mizzou!!

Postby tonythetriguy » Sat Oct 17, 2009 6:37 pm

First time posting here, discovered this forum about two weeks ago, though I've been a TD fan for several years now. I'm posting now because I've decided I really need my own TD finally, I race triathlons, cycling, and running races, traveling about 30% of the weekends throughout the year. Having a TD to sleep in at race sites would be ideal!

Eventually I'm going to build one, but currently I'm living in a not quite done 500 sq foot house I've been flippin, pus I don't have a garage to work in, so I'm going to buy an already built TD... Couple of questions if anyone wants to share their opinions. I've done some searching of the forum and have some ideas, just going to consolidate my questions here:

I have a 2004 manual Ford Focus ZX3 for the tow vehicle, looking at the Little Guys, is a 5 Wide Platform too much? The site I was on had it's curb weight at 970, suposedly my Focus should be able to do 1000.

4 foot or 5 foot? Is an additional $1400 for a 5 foot worth it? I know I can make do with the 4 foot, but I'm thinking resale when I do build my own, I'll be able to sell the 5' easier at a higher price...

welcome, fellow Missourian.

We have a 4 ft wide and have been very happy with it. With that being said, the next one I build will be 5ft just for the convenience and space. Not sure how tall you are, but I have found (being 6'1") that I can not stretch out in a pre-built one very well when sleeping. If you are by yourself, that would give you a little more flexibility.

If you are looking at resale, check this one out:

I have no affiliation with this seller, but it seems that the aluminum sided ones have more personal appeal than the white ones. Plus, being only an 8fter, the weight may stay down for your tow vehicle.

Welcome to the forum from another Missourian.
I was going to suggest Missouri teardrops as a suggestion for the tear. Little guy's are pretty little our first was a 4 x 8 and it was barely 4 x 8 the floor was only 74". Here is Dana's link

But that craig list looks like a good deal.

I've found my TD!

Postby tonythetriguy » Mon Oct 19, 2009 8:26 am

Thanks for the replies everyone! Funny thing is, I wasn't getting notified like I assumed I would to anyone's posts (prob a setting in profile), but I did get a couple of PM's that I got notified of. Julie (oklahomajewel) PD'd me about Phil's (okiecamper) 5 Wide Little Guy with lots of extras that he was selling. Phil's giving me a great deal, plus he's willing to meet me half way in Joplin!! Needless to say, I'm pretty excited!

I had the hitch put on my car a week ago, but I was thinking I was going to build one initially, didn't think I would be picking up one this week. I had seen the sale at Camping world, they have a 5-wide with lots of extras for $4633, but in addition to the 9 hour drive to TN, I would be paying their sales tax as well... Phil's is a much better deal, still though, Camping World has good prices if anyone else is looking!

That teardrop in Clinton is pretty nice looking, I think I might send that to my triathlon club, see if anyone else I know is interested.
