I'm gonna be installing windows 7 in a few minutes lets hope everything goes well.And yes I did backup everything just in case.

That reminds me, I gotta send in that coupon so that I can get my free windows 7 upgrade on my laptop.

I'm not sure I'm ready to upgrade my XP desktop just yet.

Mike, did you know that Microshaft does NOT recommend that you do an upgrade to XP - Fresh install only when moving to Win7.

Mike, did you know that Microshaft does NOT recommend that you do an upgrade to XP - Fresh install only when moving to Win7.


My laptop is Vista, which came with the free upgrade.

But I need to leave my desktop at XP, because I still run some XP only programs. I'm not sure the XP compatibility mode of Win 7 would work.

I've been running Windows 7 for about the last 6 months (BETA and RC versions). Other than a one driver issues (sound), most programs I have installed works great. Anything that works on VISTA will work on Windows 7. The best thing I have noticed is it uses alot less sytem resourses. Makes a slow VISTA computer fast. Bootup times in less than a minute. :D

Same here been using it for about 9 months now on a 64bit system . It runs smooth and fast.

One thing you will find on 7 is the "run as" button. Right click on an icon go to propertys and there will be a run as button select as far back as win95 to run older programs..And it works.

You had that option in XP as well, but I don't think it was included in Vista or was at least hidden.

I used for a friend of mine to run some win95 programs that he had.

They(?) say if you have XP, don't upgrade but if you have VISTA, you should upgrade. There will be a big difference for the better. :thinking:

I always believe that whenever you install an operating system, you should format the hard drive. It cleans and gets rid of alot of unwanted garbage from old programs and updates. It will make the new OS work better.

Windows 7 is faster than XP and faster than Vista I've been running the final release for about 2 weeks now. If you are running old apps you can run then in xpmode which is windows vitual pc running XP. You can download off of microsofts site. It has very nice time saving features.

As long s Window 7 carries IE 8 for it's browser - I will not install it. IE 8 has given nothing but problems and is a huge resource hog! :frightened:

I like the new ad also... they are actually admitting they screwed up on vista.

like 'oh, we got it right this time'......... I'll wait... xp pro is working fine for me and has for years.
