but as always we are concerned about phishing issues, and scams... I've googled the shipping company, and the customer's company and am coming up with zilch, that's the spooky part.

The fella's emails are broken English and he assures us he will pay for everything up front with a credit card. Would like to hear from anyone who has experience doing business outside the country etc.

I will like to inform you that the Bagalot will be pick up from your store location after payment have been made okay. these Bagalot is going to one of my new company in West Africa . i will like you to contact these shipping company with your store location and the weight of the Bagalot so that they can get back with you with the shipping charges which i will give you my credit card for you to run for the Bagalot and the shipping cost okay so i will like you to email the shipping company on [email protected] okay so that they can quote you with the shipping charges also include the shipping destination below

Anderson & Co. LTD
Accra Kotoka International airport
West Africa

Careful!!!
There is a scam of using stolen card numbers to purchase products and fencing them. This smells fishy to me....

I used to sell bathtubs online, and I would get these all the time.
The tip off for me was when they would blindly ask for $10,000 of product no questions asked.

CASH ONLY!

Postby eamarquardt » Thu Oct 22, 2009 8:29 pm

I'd certainly do business with these guys! But would only let go of any property after you have CASH in hand. In additon, I'd invest in one of those pens that detects counterfit bills.

If it seems too good to be true, it is!!!!! Simple but effective question on the "decision tree".

Cheers,

Gus

Have him use Paypal. If he has a credit card, he can pay by Paypal. Once it is processed through Paypal, it's your money. He cannot take it back out unless you approve of it. This makes it safe for both of you and you can tell him that up front. If he is reluctant to do it this way then I would say that's a definite sign to steer clear of him.

The pens only work as an extra precaution if you check the following:

The watermark in the bill.
The vertical strip in the bill to the left of center
The color shifting ink in the bottom right corner
And that the beginning letter of the serial number matches the date on the series number printed to the bottom left of center.

It's a lot to do but right now thieves are bleaching 5 dollar bills and then imprinting them with $100......and they are very good fakes...the pen test doesn't work because the paper is correct. i just recently had a customer pay a bill with 13 ....$100 bills that she had got at the bank....she came from the bank to the store and 3 of the bills were fake....she was not happy when I decline to take them and the bank were very embarrassed to have given her fakes.

It's a scam. I'll have to try to find it, but someone else posted something very similar to this a few months ago.

The grammar reminds me of that Nigerian Banker's Widow with no next of kin, who was supposed to send me all that money...

I get these type of guys e-mailing my store all the time with the same type of offer...funny thing is...it's never in this country, and always in Africa...don't be suckered in on this....it's a scam!!! + I've traveled in West Africa through a number of countries, including Ghana...and what I've found is that no one is worried about their personal trash containment...sorry, but that's my experience over there. We had almost the identical letter trying to buy sunglasses from our company. Turned it over to loss prevention and it was a scam. They played it for a while and they were trying to steal from American Companies.

I run a trailer manufacturers website so they are always trying to buy trailers from me....lots and lots of trailers.
Any time they give you the name of a particular shipping company you can bet it's a scam.
