Anyone try the MagicJack Phone System?

Postby BillandMarijo » Mon Oct 26, 2009 9:27 am

Someone told me about this and I bought the MagicJack Phone Modem at WalMart and hooked it up to my computers USB port. I read the directions and it was simple. You must have the Internet And I wasnt expecting much for $39.99. What a wonderful surprise. Free National Long distance, Call waiting and Caller ID and Anwering Machine. For $20 a year ( you dont pay the 20 dollars till your years up.) I am saving alot of money. Ive got kids living in other States so I am pleased. And it works great. No echoes and fuzzy noises. I tried it last year and didnt have my area code but you just use another code. I hooked it up wrong got frustrated and sent it back. Got my money refunded in 2 days. Totally happy with it now had it a month and its great. So I give it a thumbs up. Finally a way to save money. Only drawback to it you need to keep your computer on to recieve calls. I aways keep mine on anyways. :applause: Just thought Id pass this on.

Also I was able to drop my cell phone plan way down. Cause Im not using it so much anymore. :)

Yes I have two. I use them for business. I have been using them for over a year and never had any problems. I also got one for my granddaughter in college so she can stay in contact with her family. It is cheaper then a cell phone.

Do they have to be computer connected? Or do they have other models? Did you get to keep the same phone number? I carry a cell, but only for emergencies. My landline is my primary phone.

It replaced my landline. Yes it plugs into your USB port to your computer. There is a one time fee of $10 to keep your current phone # or they give you a new #. Your Computer just needs to be on to recieve the calls and for you to make calls. You can purchase it w/ a Credit Card at MagicJack.com and you get a 30 day free trial period. I love this product I figure I an saving $300 a year with this. :applause:

I've had one for over two years, I use it for a fax line vonage is what we use for a land line 24.95 a month worldwide calling.
Some days all you can do is smile and wait for some kind soul to come along and pull your ass out the bind you've gotten yourself into.

Based on this conversation from last year, I got a magicJack (not Mad Jack) plug for my phone today. With business being off, I need to contact more people to try to drum up some more income. We haven't had a land line for a couple of years and trying to create new business on the cell phone was eating up the minutes. This is a perfect solution. It sounds good and no one can tell that I'm using a VOIP phone. Thanks for the suggestion, everyone.

Hope you like it. We have had it almost a year and I love it.
In the beginning you had a little echo if you were too close to your compputer but I think they got most of the bugs out. Its a real money saver. It saved me having to bump up our cell phone plan. :applause:

If you do a lot of computer based business or spend most of day in front of computer , you may want to consider SKYPE.... Its internet/computer base phone service.... Its free computer to computer and small fee computer to land line...

We used it for a while, simple setup, and good service, but getting our old number ported over was not offered at the time and after waiting for over a year it was still not offered. We purchased an OOMA phone system, which connects up before the computer so no need to leave a computer on and ported our number over. This system looks like and acks like an answering machine with phone It cost more up front, but has more features, and only costs 12 dollars a year to renew for the basic service.

I'm curious, JIML1943. I've had mine for three years and I love it for calling, but I've had dubious luck faxing with it. Sometimes I can get one through, but most of the time, the fax fails. I've reset most of the settings on my fax machine, etc., but it's still hit or miss. Have you found a solution? Maybe you have a newer fax machine? I'm using an HP All In One that's about four years old. It worked fine back when I had a land line, but those days are gone.
