Are your doors going to open into the TD? It looks like the hinges are installed that way. Just seems it will get in your way getting into and out of the TD, or maybe even hit the bed.

Jay

Hi Jay,

Not a silly question at all! In fact I had to examine it also to see how the thing worked. Right brain / left brain thing I guess.
We got our Custom Formed Offset Aluminum Piano Hinge from Grant. http://www.lilbear.teardrops.net/parts.html
If you look at the hinge on Grant's site you can see how it works.

It's made so that you screw it on from the inside. If you look at this photo you see all the screws and where it's attached.

The door does swing out. If you look at this photo with our lovely daughter, you can see the hinge pivot on the outside edge. We liked the clean look of this hinge and it's offset about 1/4" to allow room for a good seal without warping the ply door.

Hope the photos helped. If not maybe Grant could chime in and help you understand better.

We finished trimming out one door tonight so I will get photos of it open and post them tomorrow.

I know you said it makes sence to you Jay, glad you got it even with no picture help. That doesn't surprise me from the people on this forum. So smart!!!

I'm still gonna add some pictures so that those who may not get it can see.
Sorry that they're not the best pictures... my son left on a trip to Ohio for three weeks with my good camera. uggg!

somewhat close-up of closed. I like that it's very low profile on the hinge itself. Very easy installation. Used silicone to seal it up.

Next step is windows, I believe.

Yeah, I think this galley will work OK.
Although, one thing we did figure out is that our new vintage cooler won't fit where we wanted it to after we skin the hatch. :x
It's OK, we're still bringing it along in another part of the Tear. We will put the plastic one in it's spot.

To be continued....

Thanks Jkidd! We're also liking how it turned out. It's much different than we envisioned a year ago. Next camping season will be wonderful!

We use 2 coolers anyway, one for the drinks and one for the food. Keeps the food cooler that way.

Nice job!

We've done some work on the Tear...

The windows went in soooo easy!
The handles took some tweeking. The inside latch didn't catch so we added a piece of scrap Diamond Plate under the workings, which was the perfect thickness. Also, we didn't want it to only catch on the wood so we fashioned a plate out of some more scrap alluminum we had sitting around to go around the wood . The door closes perfect!!

Image

One thing we didn't notice when we bought them was that the handles don't have locks to lock from the inside. We wanted to feel secure for if mom is camping alone with daughter. We saw this lock on another Teardropper's album and thought it looked nice.

Here is somewhat of a panoramic view of the inside with the doors on.

We've made an assessment of what needs to still be done and there are only about 9 major things on that list. YAYAYAYAY!!

Camping soon!!!

Just a thought about those interior locks ... make sure that they will not slide down and engage while you're driving down the road. I'd hate to see you get locked out! :R
