Possible New Teardrop owner.

Hello people, I would like to introduce myself to you and ask for your opinions. In two weeks I will be 62 years of age and have been a tent camper for a good portion of my life with 18 Ft. (I think) 60s Shasta in the very early 80s. I enjoy road racing, both car and motorcycle at tracks like Summit Point WV. and Virginia International Raceway in Danville Va.

I locarted a 4by8 Little Guy Trailer with two doors and a galley for 2,900 that appears to be near new, with no dents or dings and no mars in the paint or graphics.

My questions are as follows.
(1) What is the general opinion of a Little Guy trailer for camping on a weekend for one person who would have bathroom and showers avaliable and is it a good first trailer?

(2) I am not sure of the exact age, however, as I said it looks almost brand new, is 2.900 about a going rate for this camper?

(3) If I decided to attend a tear drop camp one day would me and my trailer get laughed out of the park?

(4) and last, I am assuming that a 2005 Scion tC 5 speed would be able to tow this trailer. The tC is nothing but a 4 cylinder Camry.

Any and all help you can offer will be much appreciated as I plan to call this person tomorrow.

Little Guy TD

Postby Chris D » Sun Oct 25, 2009 6:29 pm

Mayberryman COOL NAME I hear da theme song

Alot of people have little guys and love them. I personally think they are really nice TDs. I am going to build just because I can customize. I have seen a bunch up close and they are built well. As far as the price I dont know. 2900 seems fair depending on what year and what it has in it.
Check out the forum for hikerchick she has a great TD little guy.
Oh and welcome Mayberryman. :applause:

One thing you can count on from this group is support. There would be no laughing! Lots of folks in here have Little Guys of various sorts, and the manufacturers routinely chime in. You'd be in good company in a Little Guy, I think. Some models don't have galleys, so that could be an issue, but if you're not into galleys/cooking, no problem!

Well you're saying all the right buzz words for buying anything used. A good place to start is with it looking brand new. Take some pics and post them as soon as you can. Nothing like a visual to offer up an opinion on. Can you tell us what year it is and any options that come with it? So far, $2900 sounds very fair and your Scion will have no problem towing it.

And "laughed at?" No my friend, LG is a respected and well built teardrop with great customer service. And we teardroppers like to think of ourselves as a family and not snobs. So come on in, the campin' is fine.

I have 2006 6-wide and have been very happy with it.

Here's my setup at the link below -- 2008 6-wide Little Guy. Love it.

Lots of great camping in your area. I live in DC and camp mostly in Shenandoah NP and Douthat State Park near Clifton Forge, VA.

I insist upon showers.

West Virginia has some great campgrounds, too. Virginia's are excellent and dog-friendly, too boot.

Just an after thought. Far more than anything else you've shared with us concerning this trailer I think you need to evaluate whether a 4-wide trailer will fit your needs. There's a thread going now and a thousand more if you search where someone will "re-ask" the question: 4 wide or 5 wide? The overwhelming response is always 5 wide. If it's just you in a 4-wide, no problem. Two people in it? "Potential" problem.

No one would ever laugh you out of the park. Being faily new ourselves (only made 1 gathering) we were treated like long lost friends and EVERYONE was very friendly.
Enjoy your Lil Guy.

Welcome!

My first TD was a LittleGuy. I used it for two years, sold it, and built my current TD.

No , you will not get laughed out of the park! Most all of us (as gatherings go) are a combination of teardrops , other small trailers , and even still some tent campers. The main thing is that your camping and having a good time!

Don't know about the Little Guy's weight or your vehicle, but I tow my 5x8 with my 4 cyl 2001 Honda Accord. I never had my rig weighed but people have guessed it's less than 900 lbs loaded. My car has 180k miles now , but I"ve been towing for 3 yrs and never have a problem. This last trip to LA , about 800 miles(?) round trip and rain both weighs.. I averaged about 19 mpg. Just have to downshift on some hills.
