TSC fender flaw

Postby regis101 » Sun Nov 01, 2009 9:05 pm

Greetings. I knew this was gonna be a problem. Need to address it before too long. There is only an inch or so of travel before the lip will cut into the tire. In a pinch, I could pull out the lip so that it will go over the sidewall. But that basically ruins the fender. I could cut it off and center it over the tire.
In the end I'd like to have curved fenders that attach to the spring plate so they ride with the wheel. Bummer, huh?

Mine is four years old with alot of miles and has never hit the fenders. I have hit pot holes big enough to break beer bottles in the cooler.
Good day every day!

On my TSC (aka. CarryOn) trailer the springs are very stiff and I don't believe the fender will ever hit the tire. I purchased round fenders that fit just like the stock ones and intend to mount them very close to the tire just like the factory ones and hopefully will not have any problems.

I fired off emails to Carry-On about this problem.

I'm going to modify what I have for now. Probably just pull out the lip so that it misses the tread. Small sacrifice for the greater gain.

Besides, this gives me a reason to go with custom fenders. I still like the idea of round fenders that bolt onto the spring plate or u bolt it to the axle so it rides with the wheel.

If they used a 9" wide fender of the same design all would be well as far as a mass produced trailer goes, IMO.

ALL the TSC trailers that I have used ALL had the same problem. I even flared out the fenders to keep it from slicing into the tire. Finally I just removed them and built my own. Later it became a selling point to me - i would go to the tractor Supply store and look for the trailer with the worst and or rusted fender and ask for a discount for a defective fender - knowing full well that I intended to remove them later. Usually I could get at least $30.00 - 35.00 off a new trailer

I used a crescent wrench and pulled out the lip. The horizontal was pretty much at a 45* and it clears the tire nicely. Then I installed gutter edge
along the fender. This will work for a long time.
