That 3/4 rear shot is a real optical illusion! With the up angle going to the oundtail . . . .it appears it's a 90 degree corner

Optical illusion? Not in person, only in the photos.

It's true to the drawing.
:D

Got all the aluminum flush-cut today (router), and 80% of the edge moulding on with butyl tape under it. Stainless steel screws.

Hi Prem,

I finally took time to come see what you've been up to on the round tail. I have a question on butyl tape. I am wondering if I should use it to mount my windows in the cargo conversion? I have putty tape purchased for that, but I'm thinking of using butyl rubber. Where do you find that? I checked Home Despot when I got the putty tape, but didn't see any. I was going to ask Wells Cargo what they use when I call them tomorrow, but I'm thinking butyl may be a good choice. My plastic shed used that for the sky lights. Only problem was they shipped it loose in the box, and it was in terrible shape. Took me about an hour extra to unwind the messy bird's nest it melted into.

Good work on the round tail. I think it is a bit more of a project than I could attack. After this cargo conversion is done, I may consider some sort of suspension options, but probably won't be doing another trailer unless this one doesn't do what I expect it to do.

Thanks for all you help and motivation!

Gil,

Thanks...but that's what we do here: share and accidentally help others. I loved how you dealt with insulating and framing in the v-nose roof curve on your trailer! I probably wouldn't have thought of doing it that way.

Butyl tape comes in about four thicknesses/widths in light gray or the new black. You can get it at any RV repair/parts place. About $7 a roll. Does about 20 feet per roll...I think. You can stretch it some. I like the thinner, narrower stuff. Thick is for irregular surfaces. The thicker, the shorter the roll. Peel off crinkled, backing paper after you press it down real good, otherwise the tape pulls up with the paper.

By all means, do the windows with it! It takes about 15+ years for the stuff to get petrified. It never leaks before it petrifies! Nothing in a caulking tube can match it (not even butyl rain gutter caulk).

Hope that helps.

Glad you like my new build.

Like Gen. Sherman said, "Many Tanks!" :D

So, I guess if I put the butyl tape on my windows, I need to put a memory jogger 15 years from now with "fix the petrified butyl" or something, eh? ;)

I wonder if it petrifies faster here, where all the dinosaurs are???

Ok, I'll go now... 8)

Gil,

Dinosaurs? 300 million years? Yeah. Your windows seals will be gone in no time! :laughter:

Dry climate, no problem. :fan:

You can also get the tape here. Just one more option and it's where I got mine along with all my screws and miscellaneous stuff.

Thanks for the sources, KC and Prem. I did some calling around here in Tiny Town, Utah and nobbody had any butyl tape. I suppose I'll have to go to the internet order route, or go to Las Vegas and pick some up down at Camping World. Meanwhile, I need to make a run with the trailer to get upholstery done, so I may end up doing my windows twice, first time with putty tape and the a more permanent job when I get the butyl rubber tape in.

Gil,

On my cargo trailer I drilled and riveted the RV windows from the outside AND put the clamp ring on them from the inside.

BTW, I just got .024 aluminum diamond plate for the front stone guard and for narrow skirting all the way around the bottom of ROUND TAIL. $> I'll use Stainless Steel #10 x 3/4" pan head sheet metal screws with cupped, SS neoprene washers to attach the diamond plate. I just need it to stop raining for a day. Then the outside will be finished.

Ageless,

I live in an arid part. It often only rains a lot in November with :snow occasionally December thru January. Sunny, 60-degree days are not uncommon in December and January.

OH! Gotta go. The sun just came out.

Must be in Ashland/Medford or Bandon Beach, eh? I don't know of any arid places up north from there. When I lived in Salem area, it did get nice on some winter days. Same temps as some of the summer days
