I worked my arse off to help build a magazine, and one of our ideas was a segment about killer car collections in killer garages, called "Garage Mahal." The concept was a collection of awesome cars in a garage that was equally awesome, and we did this for four years in 24 issues of the magazine.

We even taped a segment as a possible TV show concept...

If you look carefully, I am the photographer that you see in a couple of shots. Yes, that is the back of my head.

Well, the magazine went out of business, and Guy Fieri of the food channel had no problem with picking up the ball and running with it.

More proof that the best way to make a lot of money is to already have a lot of money. Why come up with your own ideas when some other suckers can do it for you.

Grrrrrrr.

Thanks for letting me vent.

geez, he could have at least used a different name. But it is a darn good one. Sorry CD, that has got to be frustrating to say the least. :(

I got a story for ya.I was working a car lot.and they had more cars than garage space.so being here in texas hail storms happen all the time. I thought up a idea of sewing some egg crate foam into a car cover.I thought it would be good because you could carry it in the car with you wherever you were and be covered. I told the guy I was working for and he showed no interest and kinda made fun of me.here is the good part a few months later after I stopped working there.I was in the neighborhood and dropped by to say hi.He said that he had a idea for me to make some extra money just for selling some new car covers he came up with! I told him I wasn't interested and left.I don't know what made me more mad,him stealing my idea or him forgetting who idea he stole it from. :x

Hey CD, that little town in the video clip, Marshall, TX is my hometown. I haven't lived there for over 20 years but it is where I grew up.

If my memory is working right, I think it was a Ponder who used to bring in classic cars and often Avon tires for us to mount and balance when I was working at that tire store in Marshall 30 years ago. The most memorable test drive of one of his cars was a late 40's Rolls Royce with right hand drive, smooth as silk. Seems like he may also be the one responsible for bringing in all those wire wheels which I had to mount new tires on by hand, couldn't take a chance on using a tire machine on some of those. There were a few other collectors in town that we did work for too; Jerald Smith and Rex Pickens come to mind, Rex was more in to collecting American classics.

Hate that the "food dude" stole your thunder.

Gene made his millions when off of kitchen and bathroom cabinets. He sold almost all of his cars and memorabilia a couple years ago. He only kept a handful of his favorite cars.
