Battery in the Galley

Postby Gerdo » Thu Oct 27, 2005 5:00 pm

I have my battery mounted on my tongue, the teardrop's that is. I would like to remount it inside my galley.

Has anyone had a problem with their battery in their galley? It is a mantaince free but not a sealed "Optima". Is there any problems with charging gasses?

Gerdo:

I created a sealed box vented to the outside in the galley area. Think there is a picture of in my gallery. Vented both through floor and side of the battery box. This is a similar system used in my camper van and it has performed fine.

8) Both my tears have the battery in the galley but I only charge them when parked. Did order a solar panel to charge them. Solar panels don't create the high charge a alternator puts out. Don't always have shore power either. Never had a problem either.

Besides the venting, Weight and balance are the only problems. And there not that hard to figure. I see lots of Tears with batteries mounted in the rear. I've done it but kept the battery as close to the axel as possible. Too much weight in the rear and you get a lot of sway. "All weight is not created equal" hold a gallon of liquid in one hand close to your chest for 60 seconds, Then extend your arm and hold it for the same amount of time. Still only a gallon..but things are different.
