Caulking

My tear is polor white and I used the offset hinges from Grant Whipp. My question is; What kind of caulking is best to use, bathtub/shower caulking or outdoor caulking used for windows?

Probably the outdoor stuff. The bath caulk may not be UV resistant.

Polyurethene comes in white.

If you are going between the hinge and your wall or door I would and did use Silicone.

I agree with Toypusher - polyurethane caulk has superior qualities and the price is reasonable.... and it comes in white!

Thanks guys for the help, Polyurethene it is. I'm getting closer to completion, but will have the finish next spring. I have to vacate my friends garage for the winter.

Jim, that is sad. But the Polar white color seems apropos Sorta' like an igloo Fred

For an Alaska builder...I'd think a darker colored tear would help to absorb some heat....and in the event of camping in a "white out"...it might be easier to spot....if you're that adventerous....or you could cover it with Caribou hides...but then it might end up full of bullet holes...."Jesus, look at the size of that one!!!" Just for grins, put a rack on the front of it....Doug an ex-Alaskan....

Doug and the others,, Fred and I want to share the Alaska Igloos with, all you have to do is take the drive to the beautiful country of Alaska. My late wife named out tear, "The Alaska Adventure". So I'll bring down my igloo to Pamplin Grove and show it off.

If ya can find the stuff,,, Sonnoborn makes a caulking, polyurethane that goes by the name of NP-1. its a bit pricey but the stuff will be around for a long long time,,, and it sticks to about any clean surface,,, its just a bear to get out of the tube if its a little bit cool,,, warm the caulk up to about 70 degrees and ya can save ya arms and caulk gun from destruction trying to get it out,,

After using adhesive caulk around my windows, then not being able to get them out for repainting.... I've gone with silicone on the hatch... put on plenty, then when it sets, in my case I am waiting till next spring (no need to hurry), I'll use a putty knife, and slide it along to get off the extra.....

I used white latex silicone caulk under all my aluminum trim. I went with it because, it is easy to clean up when it squeezed it out from under the trim.

I had some leakage through the fender mounting bolt holes. I ran huge bead of GE Silicone II caulk between my fenders and the walls and smoothed it with my finger to form a channel to drain the water away from the mounting bolts. I also applied it around the bolt heads.

The GE Silicone II caulk is translucent and intended for bathrooms. I used it because sticks like crazy and cures to a rubbery consistency. I'm hoping these properties will help it withstand flexing and vibration of the fenders while towing. Time will tell if it holds up to UV exposure.

I didn't consider polyurethane caulk. Maybe I should've. Oh well, live and learn.
