Former Lurker

Postby badtowed » Tue Nov 17, 2009 9:40 pm

Hello from Arizona. Been lurking for a while. I had a chance to use a homebuilt Benroy last year. Spent two weeks with it in Utah and another two weeks in Colorado. It was love at first tow. I am now gathering information so I can build my own. I won't be able to start actual construction until next summer due to financial constraints. But that gives me plenty of time to draw everything out and ask questions. I'm getting bleary-eyed reading all the posts on this forum.

Welcome to the madness. Now that the bug has bitten, sit back and enjoy the ride!

If the homebuilt was nearby, you already have a helping hand.

Toypusher--"badtowed" comes from my nephew. When he was small, he watched a cartoon that had a toad as one of the characters. When one of the other cartoon characters scolded him for doing something wrong, the little toad would walk away shaking his head saying "bad toad, bad toad". For whatever reason, my nephew started calling me "bad toad". It just stuck. When he got older, he changed the spelling and painted "badtowed" on a cargo trailer I had converted for camping.

The trailer that you borrowed must of had germs in it and now you have caught the illness. The remedy is to build and enjoy your own trailer, for some it takes 2 or 3 builds to fight off sickness, You may exibit symptoms for the remainder of your life, No real cure has been found, Very little research to find a cure. I do not think too many want to find a cure. If you have a tight budget, do like I did, Garage sales, Dumpster diving opps, did I say that, (Recycling) Begging, Find a storage spot and start collecting stuff for your build, Trailer salvage places, I have been buying stuff for over 2 years now and still have not finished my trailer. Probably have too much stuff, Drive thru back alleys, back lots of RV dealers, looking for that decrepid old popup or boat trailer just calling out to you to recycle it. The rest is history. Welcome.
