Newbies from Alabama

Heya's everybody! I just found this site last week.

I was interested in getting a TT, and had been looking into rehabbing an old Airstream. But my boss asked me about a teardrop trailer, and since I didn't know what they were, I Googled it.

I found a lot of info, plans, and then this site, so I registered here. Now the more I read about them, the more I want to build one. I won't say I am a master carpenter or anything, but pretty much if something requires the use of my hands/tools to fix or build something, I can get it done. So I should be relatively safe from creating to much damage. :?

It's amazing how much information is on this site. Lots of knowledge, and some beautiful teardrops as well. I ordered Steve's shop manual, and plan to keep reading and learning for a bit. I have ideas of things I want to do, but until I get it all fleshed out, I'm gonna wait to start building.

Anyway, I just thought I would introduce myself and say hello.

Welcome,

Thought I'd let you know there will be a Tearjerkers gathering at Oak Mountain State Park just down the road from you the first weekend in December. It would be a good time to check out several teardrops. There should be between 10-15 there.

Thanks for jumping in on that Mark!

I'm the Alabama chapter director and I live in Irondale. I do hope you'll come to our gathering in two weeks... come tent camp or just come and visit. Details are in the Southeast section or PM/email me and I'll get you the details!

Just found this site myself. Hello to all.

Kessol,

I was going to make my own "Howdy" thread, but seeing how you all are locals thought I'd just wade in here on your "Howdy". I'm in Pell City.

Willik, Sid,

Glad to see some locals that are into these cool little rigs. I would love to see some of these in 3D. Will check my schedule for the Oak Mountain thing. Thanks.

I saw one of these (old time ones) in a magazine a few years ago and liked them. Glad to see a whole website devoted to these things.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I'm planning on stopping by Oak Mountain on one of the days. I have to work Friday and the SEC championship game is Saturday 3CST, so maybe I can make it over before the game. (Hope I won't need to come drown my sorrows after the game ) How late do people stay on Sunday? (just in case).

Woodstramp,
Glad you joined in, no need to make another thread. I'll just change the title to Newbies from Alabama ;) You wouldn't happen to work for the phone company over there would you?

I looked to see if Oak Mtn offered cable, I'd try out my baby projector and see if we couldn't show the game, but alas they don't. I expect there will be some folks headed to a local sports bar to watch the game. I'll have a list of those nearby for anyone interested.

Some folks get up early on Sunday, depending on how far they have to go, I'd expect everyone to be cleared out by noon.

How late do you work on Friday? I expect we'll be around a campfire until 10:30 or 11pm easy.

I work until 4:30, so Friday evening or Saturday morning looks like the best time.

Thank you, kindly.

No I don't, but one of my little bro's used to. I happen to work in your home town (T'ville).

I'm not sure I'll be able to attend the Oak Mt. gathering at all. "Work" work and "Honeydo" work will take priority, but I will slip by one of those days if possible.

I hope you can make it and bring the "honey"... Folks at the gatherings are really nice and can help win her over to putting tear drop work on the "honeydo" lists. <g>

willik,

I'll try my best to come meet you folks and take some "idea" pics of your TD rigs. It may be me and a little bro. He sounds interested too.
