What weight?

Hello. I'm making a teardrop trailer for the first time. I'm making the Grumman 2 and im wonder how heavy it will be when im finished so i know what size of trailer i should get.

I am not sure what plans you are using for your build. The plans in the design library at the top of the page show what size frame you need. If you are having a frame built all you would have to do is print out the page and take it to a welder. The axle would be the only thing that you would have to figure out. All the information is there to order an axle except the weight rating. Read the link that Neil post above to get an idea for weight.

That depends on how heavy you build it, not on the design you're building.

If you think anything less than 3/4" plywood or a 2x4 isn't "man's wood", then your trailer may weigh 1500 pounds.

If you think 1/4" plywood and 1x1 strips were strong enough on your grandfather's trailer (they were), then your trailer may weigh 800 pounds.

You could even end up outside these two extremes, though that is very unlikely.

My trailer is very close to this design.. I used the 1,800# h/f trailer, highly modified.. (see link below, first pic).

My all surfaces have 1.5" insulation including floor. Inside and outside walls are in mm, and slightly less than 1/4".... ceiling inside and out is 1/8" luan ply....

Fully loaded and ready to go, trailer weighs 1,100# down the road.....
