Dutch over outer surface temperature

Postby Kurt (Indiana) » Fri Dec 04, 2009 7:57 am

I know the formula to reach certain temperature levels "inside" the DO, but has anyone ever seen a chart of the outer temperature for different levels of inner temp?

With all of the infra red thermometers available (I have one) it seems that it would be good to know what the outer temp is at a given inner temp.

The ambient temp would need to be factored in of course but I'm curious if anyone has ever recorded the outside temp when cooking at (say 350F).

Any ideas??

Temperature

I agree the IR thermometers are cool. Another use for them is to make sure your CI waffle iron is at the right temperature (what ever that is). Anyway, with the advent of the new digital multimeters a lot of them have thermocouple inputs for temperatures. I got my nephew one for last Christmas and it must have been less than $25. Anyway you could use your IR thermometer on the outside and use a thermocouple on the inside to compare the two. I got a "lifetime" supply of wire at a scrap yard a while back and could send you some if you like.

You'd need a connector for your mm but they're available on the net. Also there are complete thermocouples with connectors on ebay for reasonable. I got two fluke 52 digital thermometers at garage sales. One for a buck with a nice probe and another for fifteen bucks with no thermocouples but I had a few spare.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Gus
