Good Idea, A pin up girl on a tear.

This is my Dad's B-24 named Pin up Girl. The baby's diaper had one large pin on the front. Dad is the one on the right in the front row.

I have always been fascinated by the greatest generation and ww2. Nose art on a tear should be mandatory. I just wish I could make my wife understand that. Maybe if I build a second one it will be done like that. I want to see pics when you get it done. Make me jealous. GREG

What an interesting fascination. I just spent better part of the last hour googling bomber nose art and variations. Good history there and some great images.

What if you just put the rivet heads on?

Like putting 'buttons' over screws, but rivet heads instead.

As for nose art, Harley has a new 'pin-up' calender girl. You have to be a military member to get one, but they are free to those who want them!!

I figured someone would ask that question. I'm a cheatin! These are aluminum drive screws hammered thru the skin into 3/4 ply walls. That way I can build a traditional built tear and still have the rivot look!

That's similar to what I did by using stainless steel pan head screws with a square drive. I also wanted that riveted look with the ease of screws.

Nice job on the rivit treatment Dan! That will be something that really sets it off! It may seem like a hassle to do, just for the looks, but that's what it's all about! Doug

I would think that screws hammered in instead of screwed in would back out more easily under road vibration; but, I imagine that you are putting a dab of some sort of glue/silicone on each one when you hammer it in, right? Do you drill a hole first? What is the actual process?

(I ask because I wouldn't want anybody reading this to end up with a sieve for a teardrop.)

On this trial piece I pre-drilled the holes a few thousands smaller, and tapped the nails in. Pretty tight fit! On the actual camper I also plan to dab a drop of epoxy under each. They are twist nails, which detours the backing out process.

Have far apart are you putting the screws? It looks great but very labor intensive.
