BobR, That explains alot. Your logitudinal tube that runs from the center of the trailer to the rear cross member would allow you to use a short tube. I don't have one on my frame so I will have to run a tube to the next cross member. I'll cut down a 48" reinforced tube to fit. I'm happy to know it is possible to weld it on last, with caution , and not set the whole thing on fire, I'll make sure we have a fire extinguisher close at hand.

Here's how we did it on our 3TexasTrailers. We used 1-1/2" tubing for our frames. We refer to our receiver as the "stinger":
Of course, we haven't actually tested this thing with a real bike rack yet, so I'm very interested in your research. We thought we could even use it to pull two trailers, at least for short distances. Again though, we haven't actually tested it yet.
