looking at harbor freight and red trailers type trailers. Do you guys register and title these trailers as a utility trailer and then build? Or do you have to build the whole trailer then get it titled? sorry for the newbe questions, just couldn't find the solution.

ty,
chad

p.s. I am in south jersey and pa. Not shure if it would vary by state.

I am in PA and registered mine as a utility trailer. Once registered, they cannot tell you what you can put on it as long as it does not go over the weight limit!

I have now idea what it would be like to register after the build. Just simpler this way I think.

I registered my as a utility trailer.. If, in CT, I did not do that, it would have to be inspected, and I would have to provide a detailed list of what it cost me to build it, so I could be taxed on the total.....

In Texas, utility/cargo trailers are not titled, just registered for license plates. I registered my TD as a cargo trailer.

Then again, Texas laws are pretty lax on such things. No inspections, so as long as it has plates, you can tow an empty refrigerator box duct-taped to a rusty 1956 boat trailer and call it a cargo trailer -- and get license plates for it.

Thanks for all the fast replies. looks like it's reg. first then build.

On another note, toypusher, I grew up in lancaster county and lived in york county most of my life. I still own a house in longlevel just south of wrightsville even though I live in nj now. what a small world.
