BMW's M Power app uses the accelerometer in the iPhone or iPod to measure your 0-60 and lateral acceleration. There are other apps that do the same thing, but this one is free.

I use the iHandy Level, too.

RadarMotion for live weather radar based on your location.

Compass is, well, a compass.

WiFi Trac finds WiFi sites along the road.

AroundMe to locate banks, food, gas, etc. along the road. Also Local Eats and Zagat's, although I am usually underdressed for most Zagat's dining establishments when I'm camping.

iBeer is good for laughs around the campfire. Burp.

I guess with that kinda performance, will your iPhone/iPod stay where you put it? Proly need to use the cupholder, which asks another question. Does the RT12 have a cupholder?

This is the best interface and database I have seen so far. The kind that will work when you are searching one handed.

it is $5, but I wish I had found it before I cluttered up my phone with lots of others that do less.

I also recommend Oh Ranger! Parkfinder. It is free and almost as good as Campwhere.

Radar Now - This uses your GPS to locate the nearest weather radar and allows you to make decisions about the road to take that will get you around a storm.

Google Sky - If you are TDing then it is cool to look at the sky and know the constellations. This also uses GPS and shows the portion of the sky you point your phone at.

Space Junk - Like Google Sky but shows satellites, space station, etc. that you can find with a good pair of binoculars.

Droid Light - White light, red or any color you want light.

I also like the Walgreens app for medicine on the road and the AAA app for roadside assistance.

If you fish you'll want Navionics maps on your phone. Moving GPS lake maps that don't require a data connection for about $13...

Come on Slow! What do we have to do to drag you into this century? The smart phones are a tool just like a shovel, and an Axe. The phone allows you to check weather, traffic conditions and locate camp grounds in unfamiliar places. A hundred years ago your great grandfather Slow probably said, "I can't believe you guys carry a paper map, can't you just follow in the wagon ruts?

I'm sure that the Iphone is probably a great choice for those who must have a phone. Personally, I prefer my "No-Phone" over any other. So I reckon I agree with the cowboy on this one. I feel no need for electronic communication or entertainment while camping and find very little use for it at other times as far as that goes.

We just camped for the very first time in our still-under-construction teardrop last weekend.

I used:

the level at setup time
the flashlight app (Flashlight v.1.6 by Rik) when I forgot to grab one
GorillaCam because it has a camera self-timer for self-portraits of us
Geocaching.com app to see what geocaches were nearby
Stellarium to see which constellations we were looking at

Naturally, those were in addition to the iPod, camera, etc. etc.

I have an Android so the apps may not be the same.

Dutch Oven calculator tells you how many coals to use for the temp and size of your Dutch. I know, it would only take 1 piece of paper to get the same info, but this was just plain fun.

Android has a FREE Geocaching app that works really well.
