i think we should have a mixed punishment of old ways and new ways.first he should have to give another horse and pay the vet bills even if he has to work fo $1 a day till its paid,i think there should be a punishment given that would make him rember this as long as he lives and i dont think going to prison is the answer i like somthing like canning(rember the guy in singapore)either way i think he needs to be taught that you are accountable for your actions!this guy has probably never had to be accountable for anything and dosent know what respect is.heck i bet the lady would have gave him a bale of hay to shoot at.
well iam done now hope that i havent stepped on any toes sometimes it is hard for me to stay quite 8)

Of course, one alternate theory is that this kid has been whipped (caned?) by his sadistic father all his life. Perhaps violence does beget violence, to paraphrase MLK.

I don't know whether this is the case, or not, but it is something to consider.

I was whipped by my father anytime I did something "stupid". I never left one of these whippings thinking it would be a good idea to go out and shoot a horse in the head. I see no connection. The humiliation of a public canning, preferably followed by prison time would be much better punishment than this country will allow him. They will "rehabilitate him instead. I doubt seriously that he has ever been exposed to discipline.

Now that they have caught this jerk, what will Georgia do? Will someone update us on the end results?

The LEO in me says that's it's a felony and the boy needs a little time in a 6X10 room to think about it. And I agree with the Dog, banned from ever owning weapons. A convicted felon can't legally own firearms but in this case anything that shoots an arrow should be added.

The used-to-be Air Force cop in me says this jerk should never, ever have an opportunity to spread his gospel to anybody anywhere.

Six-by-six, with a window and an hour in a concrete yard, for a minimum of 50 years. He's 17, which is well beyond the age of accountability. The more we find excuses and make exceptions for jerks like this, the more jerks we have.

Plus the horse never did anything to deserve such mistreatment.

I'm following the incident. If it is reported and I see it, I'll post the URL.

The dogs in Puppy Mills don't deserve the mistreatment they get, but the level of outrage toward puppy mill operators is nothing compared to what is being directed at this kid all over the internet.

Breeder dogs in puppy mills spend their entire lives being subjected to mistreatment -- mistreatment for profit. Maybe some public "outrage" over this horse incident could be directed towards getting the puppy mills shut down, and the operators prosecuted.

There was a cop shot here in macon the other day, and the reward for information leading to an arrest is only $2500.00.

I love animals also, but i think our outrage over the pony is not in porportion to the outrage we should have when human life is harmed, especially when it's one the few willing to protect our lifes with theirs.

When you get down to it, the Pony is an animal, the same as thousands of cow, hogs and chickens will kill everyday.

Well, I think there's a move afoot at least in Texas to do this.
The Humane Society and the SPCA are involved, so if you can give some help -- a few hours' volunteer time or a $5 or so -- please do.

I know we're all upset over this cruelty. There's a post suggesting we're not upset enough over the shooting of a LEO as a contrast. The thing is, it's not that we're not upset about bad things happening to people (I for one hadn't heard about the Georgia incident) but that we're concerned that people who do stuff like this jerk did should be stopped already.

Animal cruelty isn't new. What this kid did, and puppy mills are not a new thing. We just didn't hear about it back in "the good old days." Ignorance is bliss -- if you didn't know it happened, than it didn't.

With our 24-hour news channels and the internet, we know so much more about what is going on all over the country -- and the world -- than we did fifty years ago. So, yeah, it can look like things are getting worse.

Maybe you are ready to write off the nation, but I'm not. What is this country coming to? A lot of good things, IMO -- and some bad things, too.

I tend to focus my energy on "what can be," rather than wax nostalgic over "good old days" that never really existed except in people's naive childhood memories.

Shooting cops is a serious crime regardless of the state in which it is done. The worse part about the $2500 reward is that anyone would expect a reward in the first place. Large rewards often cause the dishonest to fabricate "information" in an attempt to collect. I believe that the police will be extremely diligent in investigating the shooting of one of their own.

There is a big difference in humanely slaughtering animals which belong to you or your employer, or legally taking game animals for food as opposed to slowly torturing/killing or otherwise abusing an animal for amusement, wild or domesticated, regardless of ownership.

If perchance you didn't read the whole article this __________ is a real winner:

"Richardson was charged with felony aggravated cruelty to animals. He is being charged as an adult, authorities said.

Fayette County Sheriff’s Office investigators also charged Richardson with a number of Georgia game and fish violations, which are not related to the horse shooting.

Richardson was charged with six counts of failure to record deer harvest when he allegedly unlawfully killed deer and failed to report them to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

He was also charged with six counts of unlawful possession of or use of wildlife when he allegedly illegally possessed deer that had not been reported to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, one count of hunting deer at night when he allegedly shot and killed a deer on West Kelly Lake Drive in Fayette County and one count of hunting deer over bait when he allegedly killed a deer on Kelly Lake Drive using the assistance of a deer feeder.

All of the game and fish violations are misdemeanors.

Richardson is currently in the Fayette County Jail awaiting a bond hearing. The case against Richardson is still under investigation, police said."
