I think I figured out your point a while back, and took a picture of me and created a B/W picture from it for an icon.

I like the skin on that teardrop. Like a white board... write and wipe!!!

I can't do that on a painted surface, a woodie, or even an aluminum one...
It makes a good case for reconsidering filon! :D
