u-bolts

Postby Aaron Coffee » Sun Jan 17, 2010 11:02 am

I am going to change to the axle to over the springs versus under the springs. My axle is 1 3/8 round, the original mountings was a plate welded to the axle the sqaure u-bolts that went over the spring, I going to go with round u-bolts over the axle, I bought the u-bolts and tie plate, but the b-bolts are for a 1 3/4 round axle. Would it work to find a couple of short pieces of 1 3/4 od pipe with a 1 3/8 id split it in half and weld it to the alxe, or is there a better solution?
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

With internet access why settle for a patched up job... While your solution will probably work with out any "issues", it is just as simple to get the right "U" bolts...

When I did GOOGLE search for "axle U bolts"....

"Results 1 - 10 of about 8,890,000 for axle u bolts. (0.42 seconds) "

Also check local "fabrication shop"... Was recently in a local fab shop and they had ability to fabricate "U" bolts in ANY diameter - rod size, ANY diameter - axle size, and any thread/bolt length...
