Well, a new year is here, and I finally made some:
Image

Actually, most of that is from making a butcher block countertop for Mom:
Image

However, I did get some work done on the Kampster. I fixed (hopefully permanently) the hatch attachment points. Here's a view from the back and front sides. Sorry for the blurry pictures, I took them from my cell phone.

I also got some of the cabinet framing done and a drawer made. There will be a face frame on the cabinet that is not in this picture.

The right side cabinet (again, without face frame):

Next week I hope to get the face frame on, rest of the drawers built, and started on the sliding/folding/extending cabinet on the left side.

I won't get to work on the teardrop for a few days still, but I did mess around a little bit with a "data plate" reminiscent of ones on old Kenskill trailers.

Image

I can print this on a polyester paper with adhesive backing, or on a water slide transfer decal. Both can be done using a regular laser printer. I'm leaning toward the polyester paper just due to ease of application.

Great job, Brad!

I used to live in Derby, back in '78, and worked for Beech. Out in Arizona now.

I just stumbled on your build and read every word! Awesome!

I too, found out that wood was not good enough to hold my gas shocks, so I reinforced the connection point with a pair of .125" steel hangers sed in construction. Works great now!

You'd never recognize Derby now, it's grown so much. It's a great little bedroom community. The city's really taken an active role and made sure the development has been of good quality.

I probably shouldn't mention that back in '78 I was...being born. :R

Thanks! Maybe I'll end up putting something like that in there, I don't know. I've been playing around with it a bit. I have some time since I won't be printing it until we get the final weight. The 1057 lbs that's on there right now is pure conjecture.

Send me a PM with your artwork and a address and I'll make you one out of plastic or aluminum. I have a 50 watt Laser that does a nice job.

That would be great (not to mention, very kind of you)! An aluminum plate would really complete the look! PM sent.

I know you don't want to know this right now but you'll thank me in the long run...the word should be MATERIALS...

Thanks, because that's something I would totally do, but...

Actually, materiels is correct as well, although one mostly see it without the "s" as materiel.

From Merriam-Webster:
Main Entry: ma·té·ri·el
Variant(s): or ma·te·ri·el \mə-ˌtir-ē-ˈel\
Function: noun
Etymology: French matériel, from matériel, adjective
Date: 1819
: equipment, apparatus, and supplies used by an organization or institution

I chose this spelling because it's a little old-fashioned and I wanted it to sound like it was made in the 40s or 50s. Hence "years of trouble-free camping pleasure" as many companies spoke about their products in funny ways like that.

Thanks again...don't hesitate to save me from myself...usually I need it!

Some progress from today: all fixed cabinets and drawers installed and painted. I also framed up the sliding and extending cabinet. Here's a sneak peek:

Image

There will be a paneled face on this cabinet so it looks similar to the paneled door on the other side of the galley.

Then it will slide out like:

Image

Then, you can fold out the countertop and access the cabinet shelves via the side door. This fold out counter will give a total of a little more than 30" of extra counterspace.

Image

I also made up a "Dutch Oven Holder" I just took a scrap piece of ply and marked the legs of the dutch oven on it and drilled them out. After screwing this to the bottom of the right cabinet, I'll have a place for the dutch oven to sit and keep it from bouncing all over the place while going down the road.

Image

Next up is getting all the doors made. I already have two for the inside cabinets cut and ready to put together. They'll be a rail and stile frame with a beaded board panel.

My apologies....but I was referring to the Queen's English in which MATERIEL means specific items used in conjuction with a venture i.e as your definition says "equipment, apparatus and supplies" whereas your plaque refers to the construction of the teardrop which is made up of individual pieces which are put together i.e materials.......rather than being constructed out of apparatus and equipment. Materiel is also most often used to describe pieces of warfare.....but each to his own...

Ah, yes, I see the difference...the teardrop, camping stove, dutch oven, flashlights, etc. would be camping materiel. Lumber, aluminum and paint would be material. Material it is!

Thanks!
