Sorry Kerry
I can't speak for others but I just thought it was worth pointing out there are alternative solutions available that are less/not prone to the virus problems experienced with Windows - didn't mean to hijack or derail your thread.

That's what I had to do, but AVG free now shows three trojan horse downloaders on my system, says virus vualt is full. Maybe I'll try that link.

I'm no computer expert, in fact I do not even like computers very much, but any time I see a pop up that says my computer is infected I click on absolutely nothing. Instead I simply hold the power button down until the computer shuts down. Then reboot, so far so good.

I checked in to buying a Mac a few years ago. Couldn't justify spending more money for less computer that would not run most of my software. Virus software is cheaper anyway. I use AVG Free, can't beat that price.

Just hit alt-F4 that will close the window without the clicking dangers.

Thanks I'll give that a try if it happens again.

Re: Virus Warning...http://www.mikenchell.com/forums/viewtop

THE VIRUS WARNING IS ALL TOO REAL!

I wanted to bring this to the members and administrators attention!

I was looking through the Cargo Trailer Conversions section last night, Sat 013010, and this early Sun am 01/31/10 and only looked through the three top threads that had new activity for the day (Saturday 01/30/10). I don't know positively for sure if this is the source, but after I clicked on michiganflipper's link for photos of his build (//goodtimes.webshots...) and looked at the photos - not an easy thing to do necessarily as the site seemed rather squirrelly to me -on the various postings - I then started to get all of these popups for 'Internet Security 2010' which was trying to pass its self off as an antivirus program with constant pop ups warning of perilous immanent threats to my computer from lists full of viruses and trojans etc.- all ficticious and erroneous. It shut down pretty much all things that I had open and running.

It was a royal pain in the axx to say the least!

I usually use Chrome for the internet but the rogueware wouldn't let me bring it up again. I was able to get Internet Explorer up and finally Googled 'Internet Security 2010 removal". Off of that I was able to use the www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/ ... urity-2010 search result info to finally get it off my computer using their step-by-step instructions for 'Internet Security 2010' (aka IS2010) removal that utilized rkill.com and Malwarebytes's Anti-Malware to cleanse it from the computer. It only took about 6-7 hours of 'phiddlepharting' around with it all to get it finally done!

This rogueware infected my computer with Panda2009 antivirus running and I even did a full system scan with Panda2009 as soon as I could after all the IS2010 popups started to show up - as well as a Staples popup - and the Panda2009 scan showed only one item that it quarantined but it wasn't related to IS2010! Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware's scan came back with 28 files/items of malware/virus that I had it delete or quarantine or whatever it does with it for the IS2010 problem. Bleepingcomputer says that alot of these rogueware/malware viruses like this can can get by alot of the existing antivirus protection programs out there now. I can sure vouch for that! Time to renew our coverage is coming up so you can be sure I'm going to do more research on that now! Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware has a free version and one that you register for and you have to pay for but it is only @$25, so I'm gonna probably keep it for at least a while unless I find something that is even better - a perpetual quest eh?

Sorry for the wordy details but I wanted to warn everyone, especially michiganflipper, to be careful of that photo hosting site as that is the only place that I can see that the rougueware came through, although it seems they can slip through within just about any kind of program, software or site accessed if they are planted within them. I only went to the usual six sites I tend to check all the time and the '//goodtimes.webshots...' was the only thing that I'd never encountered before, so that's my "Sherlockian" deduction about it.

Hope this helps someone else if they are as unlucky as I was last night ---and on T&TTT of all places!!!

Yea, that's the one that got me. The first thing it did was Remove my system restore. To make a long story short, I had to reboot and lost years of saved material.

Good case right here for keeping a backup image of you machine and do it at least once a month to avoid losing tons of stuff!! Get some imaging software like Norton Ghost or my favorite Acronis TrueImage.

NOTE: If anyone decides to buy imaging software, do a google search for coupon for what ever one you choose to buy. You can almost always get some kind of discount if you search for it.
