Ice Storm in Oklahoma.....

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Postby bc toys » Mon Feb 01, 2010 9:48 am

Sorry to hear about the ice storm, hope it melts soon. Remeber those days of not being able to go anywhere. I grew up in n-e Texas. But dont wait on our goverment to help, it is amasing we can get food water clothing to other countrys the next day but we only get paper work to fill out to the people here in the USA and then we have to wait for it to be denide a few times hoping that some will get tired of filing it and give up. If you got a genarater hook it to the wires that run a few lights and the frig. and you can see and maybe save some of your food. Being from Ok . hope you dont getyour heat from electrical serve.

Yeh! Our electric is back on!! It's been off since around 1:00 Thursday afternoon. We've had heat thank God. And we have a small generator to run the TV and DVD player. And I always buy a new board game before winter storms. So we've had some fun family time.
We always prepare for the electric to go off. We stock up on no-cook snacks, and ice. A full freezer will keep things frozen for several days longer than a half full one will. Everything in the fridge goes in a ice chest. The worse thing is that we lose water when the electric goes out. But we just haul out another generator. I hate not having water.
Right now we still have about 8 inches of snow on top of about 3/4 inch of ice. But the roads are slushy and drivable.
But no matter how bad it gets anytime, we do not wait on the government to take care of us. We are tougher than that!

Maybe we, those of us in the colder climates need to put the freezers/food boxes outside when the power goes out. We didn't loose the food in our freezer because it was in an unheated garage.......

A few days of ice will kill those fleas...at least the ones OUTSIDE

Karol, glad to hear you finally have your electricity back. Sounds like you always make the best out of everything. Sure miss you! Will you ever be able to camp again?

I know what you're going through. In the summer of '08 we here in Ohio had a major wind storm. It knocked power out for the whole city. We were one of the last ones to get their power back. It took five days. :o It was miserable. :( Hang in there. It will come back.
Have a great day and hoping the weather is great no matter where you are!!!

That's what I get for braggin. Right after I posted that our electric was back on, off again. About 6 hours. Oh well, back on now. Hopefully for good. Or at least until the next storm.

Betty, I've been hoping to get out some this summer. We'll see how that goes. We have a 10 year old great-nephew part time now, as well as our 4 year-old great-nephew full time. The 10 year old plays baseball on a team that has won state several times, so his summer is busy, busy. We'll have to wait and see where camping can squeeze in. I sure have been missing everyone!

I don't know about Oklahoma but we just got three more inches. This brings our total for the last week to a little over twelve inches and they're calling for six more inches. Anybody ready to go camping yet!!! My cabin fever has kicked into overdrive.

Here I is!!!! 8)

We have actually had a winter here this year.

Sorry about the "no contact" thingy...didn't mean to worry anyone. We "opted out" of the 21st century for a while there...it was really kind of nice. But now we are all tired of just setting around and looking  at one another...so here we are wasting time at the computer desk again.

It's still to wet to go outside...our front yard is like a marsh...and the back yard is like a full blown swamp. By the time the sun dries things out today and tomorrow...we are suppose to get more rain Sunday.
:? :?
We've got lots of pics of the snow and ice to share...I'm off all week-end...maybe I'll get the posted here for you guys.

I hesitate to say this too loud, but the snow is starting to recede around here. :R I can actually see the grass. It's brown grass but it is still grass. We're looking at 40's and some low 50's this weekend. So they say. It's sad when 40's and 50's is a heat wave. I'll take anything above freezing at this point!!!

That's funny...I was just saying the same thing to a store clerk earlier today...everyone's driving around with the windows down and little or no coats.
