Chris...it's the same stuff as I have used on the counter top edges. I just happened to have a stick of it laying around from previous builds. I ran out when it came time to do the table and the guy in Sac. doesn't have it in stock right now. Doug

Looking fantastic Doug.

I been out in the shop a bit. I might have a standie at the Glyphs. But no sneak peeks until I unveil it.

"The Not Bad Nomad"

Postby down under tech » Mon Feb 08, 2010 11:28 pm

Hi Doug" I think you have to be careful walking around your garage with all those creative juices leaking out of you and pooling on the floor. They can be very slippery you know. So be sure of your footing when you take your next steps in the garage. You don't want to have to go to the hospital for a sprained ankle. But seriously, I "likey" your "Not Bad Nomad". Where did you get the ideas for the art deco them? Is it from looking at older TTs or do you use your search engine and use "art deco" as your keywords? I think I will do just that and incorporate some art deco in mine. I just started on my first TD. I just want to finish it. I know it will not be close to your builds but I have a desire to make it as nice as I can after watching your build of the Sierra Nomad. Keep up the good, no, scratch that, GREAT work !

Plans? What are plans?

I get the impression that you are in this for the fun, as much as for the end result. It shows in your work. If it's not fun to do, why bother.

I get most of my inspiration from old movies and product design from whatever era. It's a perfect slice right out of time. Deco ended in the 40's, this is more Retro or mid century, modern was the buzzword at the time, now retro. Certain eras had very specific design lines and details that at times can nail it right down to a year. The dawn of the space age and Sputnik for instance had a great influence on design during the mid century. I just haven't created my tribute to Sputnik for this trailer yet. Doug

50s Style THEME

Postby down under tech » Tue Feb 09, 2010 7:35 pm

Hi Doug: I guess I like the mid century style. Maybe because I am from that decade, but don't tell anyone. It is not like it is today. :x I like Ricky & Lucy and the movies they were in. I need to get their travel trailer movie. Anyone know the name of it? The big trailer or The long trailer? I see that I don't know how to spell "theme" either. I have learned the correct spelling. Any who, I am going to call my Cubby build; The Silver Nugget B&B, (Bed & Breakfast) the reasons are because I am from the "Silver State" (silver mines) & it will be aluminum skinned, and it might look like a nugget. :ok: :vroom: :noyes: Well Doug, I am waiting patiently for your next pics of more of your progress. Take Care,

Here's the Valentines Day update... I got 8 feet of the ceiling primed/ painted and installed. Takes 1 more sheet to get it completely done, got the rear end framed below the bed, installed the galley upper cabinet, and cut in the vent. Also glued in back up pieces for where I want to install the lights and fan.

I went with a step van vent on the side. I don't have enough clearance to do a Fantastic fan on this one. The vent can be operated to open up or down by moving the black handle. I trimmed it out with some counter top edging. Same vent that is used on a Cozy Cruiser...(I think). I'll need to add a couple of pieces of window screen to the openings as the holes are too large.

I also learned a great lesson. The trailer has been sitting without a roof, while I had stringers holding the tops in line, I should have had something to stiffen and hold the sides nice and flat. I did for a while, but it made it hard to work on (I kept walking into it), so took them off and didn't reattach them. Now, when it is all said and done...I had a side with a bow out on it. I figured it wasn't that bad, except it happened to be right at the door. The idea of intentionally building a bowed door didn't appeal to me so I removed the interior cabinet, which was part of the issue, cut it down to relieve the pressure and then reattach. I lost about 2 hours in clowning around with that. Oh well, live and learn. Doug

Thanks for the V'day update, Doug, and it is impressive, as usual. :applause:

Even though I'm sorry that you had a 'gnat' in your building process, it is somehow comforting to know that even a masterbuilder still runs into problems occasionally. The difference is that most times, when you run into a problem, you already know what you did (if you did it) and how to fix whatever needs fixing!

Thanks for the update.

I did a bit of work on mine today. If I make to the Glyphs gathering will have a standy.

You will have to see it to believe it.

My new table saw sure makes things a lot easier. I am also working on a way to put a tarp on the side of the beast, over the door. for a dry landing getting out and in.
