Simply put times are tough! Unfortunately the governments here in California (and elsewhere) haven't gotten the message TEA! I recently saw a list of California Government agencies. It, simply put, was obsene! More useless departments than you could shake a stick at! Once one of these useless departments is created, the unions and other special interest groups won't let it go!
The politicians just don't get it! No incumbent will get my vote in the next election!
I was forced (illness) to retire 6 years ago and my SSDI is approximately 1/4 of what I would be making if I were still working. AT&T and Sedgwick CMS (the administrator of the AT&T disability plan) conspired to deliberately and systematically defraud me of the benefits they promised, I worked for, and earned. They are evil!
In spite of the fact that we are putting my two sons through college (one is even "away from home" on my dime) because we planned ahead and my wife has a good income we get by just fine, put money in the bank each month, and my two boys will graduate from college (I hope) debt free.
We sacraficed many years living frugally and investing rather than requiring "instant gratification now".
All I can say to the young is work, earn money, don't spend money you don't have (ie credit cards and loans) and don't spend all the money you do have.
My thoughts go out to all those that have lost their jobs because I also went through that emotional trauma and also had the knowledge that I'd never be able to hold a regular job again.
I do, however, keep busy, am sometimes even productive, and it beats lying in bed wallowing in self pity as AT&T and Sedgwick CMS would have me doing!
Cheers,
Gus
