Yup. It's all a trade off, and a lot has to do with where and how you are raised. An average Joe from Texas might find Denmark overbearing, but if you are born and raised in Denmark, the benefits of that society seem to outweigh the things that we see as negatives.

And, having been pushed to the brink of bankruptcy by cancer, I can see how Scandinavians might not mind their higher taxes in exchange for all the safety nets they have.

I would think that taxes are a lot easier to live with, if you feel like you are getting something of equal value in return.

Well, technically, the apartment complex owner pays property taxes, which effects rents -- but, it's probably not enough to cover the kid's education. I'm not sure that a new sales tax is the answer, either. That's a regressive tax.

And, having no kids, I have been paying to educate other family's kids for the last 25 years. I don't mind that. I just wish they would put more of my tax dollars into education, and less into football.

I may get run out of Texas for saying that.
