Hi Bobgorrilla

You forgot to mention you also have a windows PC problem. The Wintel machine will never be a great games machine (when compared to decdicated machines)

I may be wrong, but I thought this thread was about computing not games machines?

George, when has ANY thread on this board gone more than a page without at least an attempt at hi-jacking  once Larwyn(original poster) had his queation answered and his decision made, this thread was up for grabs...and it was grabbed :D ;)

The Xbox and even the Xbox 360 are essentially "Wintel" machines. The 360 uses 3 3.2GHz cores.

Besides, I thought this thread was dead.

Hi Asian

Yes they are but they are dedicated for games play, they are put togethor all in house like a Mac so there should not be any compatability issues.

Bob, space cannot be an issue, even a teardrop would have room for both, which leaves you with cost. So your sole reason is lack of funds.

The best choice for you is not a wintel PC, the best choice would be a MAC for computing and a dedicated Games machine, but based on money alone you have chosen an inferior wintel PC and inferior Games machine, A jack of all trades and master of none as it were.

Really that is like saying a leaky trailer is the best choice for accomodation, based on the reasoning that its all you can afford.

 :x George, 1st time I've ever completely disagreed on anything non-political and non-religious. SPACE in my "house" is the issue not in tear ( I should have cleared that up earlier and my next comp will be desktop) "House" is 460 sq. ft. with 2 adults, a medium size dog, a large cat and a amazon parrot. Her hobbies include electric guitar and nearly a thousand cds and don't include games or computers so maybe now you can understand that SPACE and FUNDS are concerns. I also had a 2c and 2e back when they were state of the art and just didn't like them. I'm one of those. 8) Also, it's more like deciding to build a 4 x 8 instead 5 x 10 because of funds. And at my size 6' 2" 363 lbs. the 5 x 10 would make more sense but I'm adaptable. Spent 6 years on a submarine and 2 driving over the road so I can tolerate small spaces. :frightened:

Hi Bob

460 Sq Feet !! so theres more than enough room then, especially if you went for and iBook !!

But let us suppose for one minute that space could be used excuse wise, even then the best combination would be a MAC and a seperate dedicated games machine, a Wintel PC would still only be a poor compromise based on lack of funds and space......

The deed is done.

Ended up with a windows machine, based on the fact that I could not find 800 dollars woth of resons to buy the MAC.

Happy with the Toshiba so far.

Larwyn, now you can spend $800 on antivirus software........

btw, I bought a Mac yesterday... It was the Big model and tasted pretty good..... got it at the golden arches..../g/

I know Mac owners love them, but it gets almost like the Ford vs. Chevy thing..... I have an IBM thinkpad laptop and a dell desktop. I suspose they might be more complicated than the mac, but they do what they are susposed to..... guess it just depends on what you are brought up with, and lots of school kids are brought up on macs.....

Anyhow, good luck with your new machine.....

Hi

It cant be $800 dollars more than the wintel, so its ony the difference in between saved isnt it? (for now....) Over here its about £150 dearer to by Mac Quality against PC Cheap and cheerful

Its not like the Ford Chevy thing, because thats a subjective matter of opinion, Apple Mac computers are better than Wintel PC's that is a matter of fact, of course some people disagree, but thats like saying that the suns rises in the west, it my be someone's opinion, but it will never change the facts.

Okay, George, I stand corrected. Thank you for pointing out the errors in my thinking.... and I apologize to anyone who I mislead with my comparisons.

I can only assume that at some point pc's will fall by the wayside as Macs take over the world.... I don't know about everyone else, but wanting to be ahead of the curve on this one, I'll be looking at buying some Apple stock today.

Hi Arnerail

I doubt PC's will ever fall by the wayside and will probably always dominate the market, but not because Wintel are the best, they never were better. Being the mostprolific does not make wintel the best.

Apple stock is an OK Investment.

Disregard all of the above though, Apple Macs are the best personal computers, thats what I am saying and the facts show it to be true.

Where exactly do these 'facts' come from? From a small contingent of Mac users that decided they are better because....? I build my own machines with AMD CPU's and never have any problems that I don't bring on myself. Windows isn't the best OS but it is very functional, I have considered Linux but like Mac none of the programs I want function in it. The argument that you can use this or that program that Mac has is silly, I want to use a certian program because I like it, it functions as advertised and does what I want NOT because that's all there is for that particular OS, and I like lots of choices.
Argueing over which one is actually better is a foolish waste of time, buy what you want to spend your money on and be happy. That's all I'll say on this subject.

Just a quick note of mention to all the MAC folks that say they are best due to viruses and stuff. There are viruses for the MAC - just not many. But, if MAC ever comes even remotely close to a 'share' of the market, then the hackers will consentrate on viruses for the MAC, just like they do for the Microshaft OSes! Just some food for thought. I guess my biggest thing against MACs (and I am NOT anti-MAC) is that everthing is proprietary and I just don't like that. It is the same (only worse because it includes the hardware) that Microshaft is. And that is why Microshaft is disliked by so many!

Just an opinion and not meant to anger anyone!
