Good idea Bruce...I think I'll just run a drop line over to yours!!! I may be in luck...just measured it tonight...I think it will fit out the garage door without adjusting the axle, it's sitting down 3/4 of an inch from the bare frame. Maybe I'll test it this weekend. Now that it is sitting down a bit, I will trim the wheel wells so that the white walls show evenly in the exposed opening and cut them out a bit so that they don't look so wimpy. I think that Sac Vintage Ford has a hub cap that will take some lettering for the trailer name and look like a manufactured cap. Doug

Here's the Sunday update...I bombed out with the hub cap thing...so the search continues. Picked up all the exterior roof skin, 1/8" luan. I know it's not necessary, but I get humongous pine cones that drop here and will dent the aluminum badly if I don't back it up with something.

I got the rear closed up and the windows cut in. Bed deck and mattress rail is done and painted. Most of the lights are backed up and mounted. Radiused all the corners on the windows and fit them all. I still need to do the interior corner trims and on the seams, as well as windows.

Went down to Steve E's on Saturday. He had picked up a free mid 80's slide in pop top camper that he's parting out. He really scored with it! He got a working 3 way fridge, furnace, lots of hardware and fittings, fuel tank, water tank, pump, yada yada yada...He was generous and gave me the paddle handle latch for the door! Woohoo! works slick, after some cleaning, fits down to a 1.25" thick door. Even had the key...I'm set. Big thanks Steve...I'll get you a case of your usual beverage! Doug

Doug,

It's closed in! That's been a big psychological step for me on my builds because it finally looks like a camper. I recommend cracking a beer, pulling up a lawn chair and toasting the camper!!

Looks great,

Thanks all....Auntie M...dishes were an E-bay deal that ended up with many of them broken in shipping...

Bruce...I could set a chair in the garage and have a beverage, if I cleaned it up. Your build has much more into it than this painted box. I guess that's an advantage to building a Scotty clone. I'm sort of pushing it to get it skinned and painted before the bugs hatch...makes for tough spraying. I'm also contemplating moving the windows a bit on the sides....but I need to get it out of the garage first so that I can see it at a distance to really see if that's something I want to do. A drawback to no plans, or too many/ not enough beverages during the build....Doug

This one gets all aluminum, painted. I'm not into something that will be a high maintenance thing, ie polishing. I'm looking into getting the 3" break on the sides, but that's pricey and a days roundtrip to Hollister to pick it up. The guy at Cardo says he can roll or has 4" ones. I'm waiting till he gets in the table trim and I'll go down and have a chat with him on it. Doug

Did you radius the corners on the windows?... Kinda looks like they're radiused, but can't tell for sure, my eyes are kinda tired tonight.

Hey Doug, did you happen to check with Hemet Valley RV (http://www.hemetvalleyrv.net/). That's where I got my skin for the Field and Stream. I got it flat because I needed a 2" break. They can do all kinds of patterns including 3" & 4" standard break patterns. If you haven't already ordered, it might be worth while to check them out. Oh, my friend that is helping me with the re-skin has a 8' or 10' break (makes it covenant). All my skin is ready for install, just waiting for the weather to get better (read no rain), then it goes for paint. And by the way, the Nomad is looking good. The way your going, it'll be ready by Shasta.

Hello Professor Doug: When I see the latest things you've done to the Nomad, I can't help but think of you as a very intellectual individual. I think of Marty McFly and how impressed he was with Doc Brown in the "Back To The Future" movies. That's the way I think of you. It's looking REALLY good. I hope to see it in person some time. In the near future ??? Keep it up. Thanks,
Johnny D.
