northern tool trailer

Postby toys4youtoo » Sat Feb 20, 2010 3:23 pm

I found out that northern tool has a trailer on sale. I have many questions, how does it compare with red trailer?, Are there modifications that need to be made for the generic benroy plans?, They say I have to unload the trailer from their delivery truck, is this normal? What have some of you done about this?, Are they a good company to deal with? I live in So. Cal, any problems registering it? Has any one had real problems with the company Northern Tool?......Please help!!!!!

I bought one at the Northern Tool store, the 5x8 floorless trailer, which is what I used for my build. I think it is available at the stores only and it was around $300 when I bought it 2 years ago. I've been very happy with it. It is the same brand that Tractor Supply carries. It comes assembled and I am told the axle is in a good location, plus they already have it mounted above the spring, so in my case, it did not require modification. i don't know if this is applicable for your situation, because mine was not shipped.

I have the same trailer as Al. I built a 5x8 Generic Benroy on it and didn't move the axle. It worked just fine. My battery is is the tongue box. When I bought it fully assembled from Northern Tool I didn't have to unload it from the truck. It sounds like your Northern Tool employees are just being lazy. Do you have to assemble it too?

I live on the west coast in S. Calif. There are no stores here or even close to here, so they have to ship it to me by freight truck. Shipped it comes in two boxes so I have to put it together myself.

The trailers that Al and Tim have are made by Carry-On and have welded frames that require no assembly other than bolting on the tongue, maybe the wheels. Nice trailers, but I don't see them on their website. What model trailer from Northern were you looking at? They have several on sale. Northern Tool is mostly an east of the Mississippi operation and the freight might kill you. It may be better to look at Red Trailer or Harbor Freight due to your location.

Northern Tool trailer

I bought the 5x8 norhthern tool trailer with free shipping about a year ago.
Yes it came in 2 or 3 boxes and I had to bolt it together just like
the harbor freight trailers. I happen to be at home when delivery came
and he slid the largest boxes down to me on the ground and I balanced
them upright until he got his cart down and wheeled them into the
garage. It is easy to move the bracket that holds the axle and springs in
place. It was also easy to title and register. Just took the paperwork and
checkbook to the dmv. Registered as an utility trailer before I built the
tear on it. Just my experience here in Oregon. Have fun.

The model trailer that Al and I purchased from Northern Tool is not on their web site. It's an in store purchase only and not available online. It is also their least expensive 5x8 available.

I contacted Carry on. They said any dealer can special order this trailer. They have delaers nationwide.

Edit: I called my local dealer, Deer Valley trailers. They said they could not order a "no floor" trailer for me.
