Exercise Anyone?????????????

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Postby artwebb » Tue Feb 23, 2010 12:38 am

Couldn't get on yesterday to this forum, my email, and another site, dunno what was wrong. Sundays are my off day anyway.

Tonight started two set phase. Ten minutes on eliptical, resistance exercises, ten more minutes, and a second set of resistance. All at higher reps, of course, becuase of recent strength gains.

You are so right Fenlason about training specificity, but I thought I'd be limited more by the muscles and less by the cardio. Anyway, I'm not going to bother testing cardio again, I'll know I'm getting better on that when my speed goes up or I start needing more tension on the machine.

The elipticle, it's one of those cheapies built by modifying a stationary bike to make an elliptical. Two of the readings it gives me are speed and distance, and if those numbers are in miles they would be about right ror a stationary bike. (currently average 10.7-11.1 speed at a good pace) I don't think this will tranlate so much to walking fittness, but may contribute to riding fitness, since it's sort of like standing up on the pedals on a bike while riding, so maybe It'll translate some.

Tonight my wife got on the bike (how she uses it) while I did the resistance part of my workout. Great to actualy see her use the machine, and I was able to offer encuaragement when she thought she wasn't going to make her time, which she appreciated. She says as long as my work schedule permits she'll exercice with me from now on, instead of while I'm gone or on the computer. She actualy had the idea if she was on the bike when I was ready to get on (or back on) I'd get irritated.
No, ma'am! I can stay warmed up pacing the floor just fine! I love to see her getting some exercise, and can't wait till she reaches that level of fitness where she'll FEEL GOOD while exercising!

Well my regular exercise partners are starting to get scarce.

Laurie and I went out to do the trail we did last Thursday. This time we wore slip on grippers for the bottom of our shoes... but this time it had been so warm out the snow was soft.. so there were places we kept sinking in...  It was still a lot of work. Firm snow would be faster.. We were still able to take 8 minutes off our fastest time.

Gleeeeeeen...what's up my friend? :) I've been really, really, really swamped with relatives visiting, throwing a house warming party for the kids, having a birthday party and fighting bronchitis...all within the last 5 weeks! I still have relatives visiting so after Thursday, I will be able to breath again. I have started walking again but will get back into it full force when the company finally goes home. How are you?

Being ill will do that, but if your recovery time is improving, so's your health.

twenty minutes straight on the eliptical tonight, my Lady 5 mins on the bike, twice. (second time needed mucho encuaragement, glad I was there for her)

Cajun lady that's a heap of distractions, but family's as good for the heart (sometimes) as exercise. Bronchitis, yuck! I wish that illness was a varmint so we could hunt it down and kill it (can you tell I've been a frequent flyer wit this illness?)

Hi Art! Yes, I agree about family being good for the heart...sometimes. I love em' dearly but I love to see them go home too. It's been fun but they don't like the activities that can break a sweat. If they just like playing Wii, that would be enough (old farts!).

Sorry you have fought the bronchitis demon too. Man, that seriously takes the pep out of your step. But, I am feeling wonderful now and looking forward to some bike riding (but not the hard riding like Glenn does), racketball and camping. Especially camping!

nope..

still not feeling great.. and left knee and elbow is sore.. and I hurt my back at work yesterday... :(

all I really did after work was lots of stretching.

I might ride one of the exercise bikes today.. or maybe head outside into the wind and rain for a ride.

We have our next Ice race practice this next Sunday.. and the following Sunday.. with our race the following Sunday.. I had hoped to be in better shape.. :(

I haven't read the thread to understand what everyone is doing and what everyone else has posted.

I try to exercise at least 30 minutes each day at a bare minimum. I have been doing a mile swim at 5:30 every morning and following it up with a 20 mile bike ride on my rollers in the basement when I get done working. Each week is different on what I do. I am also running 3.5 miles 3 - 5 times a week on other weeks.
