Hey Thomas,

We've had a few good weather days here. I've been wondering if you've made it out to the garage, and perhaps got those fenders mounted?

Yeah Thomas we wanna see some pics of the fenders mounted.

I just picked up a set close to the same the other day - 9" wide though not 11" - on sale $30 for the pair and no shipping damage to worry about 'cause they were local and I was the shipper.

Well I finally received my second good fender Friday and Saturday the roofer guy was here but I did that little teardrop stuff and Sunday I had to finish up my roof work that he didn't get done, and during the week I didn't do much.

Speaking of the fenders though, I talked to the guy at Superior Exports and he let me have the two dented fenders for $30 for the pair! I don't really need them but since I am stock piling spare parts again (It's a habit but it pays off), I went ahead and took the deal. Yeah they are still dented but not terribly so I can fix em up when the time comes.

Before I can mount them, I need to get the steel angle iron I bought welded in place on them, and then after they are welded I will need to finish them out in either gloss enamel paint or buff them then clearcoat. After that then, I will take the LT and the fenders up to the muffer ship and have the angle welded to the frame. This will take care of the lower mounting and I am thinking I will mount them snug as possible and seal them to the side with some PL Premium black sealant that I have used for everything on the teardrop.

Question, Anyone know what is the stuff that people run around the inner border of the fenders to help seal it against the wall?

So anyway, it is a process and I doubt they will be on by Beaver's Bend but I hope so! That's the benefit of being campable: "No more goals"

Hey Wig, might still be a bit of time to go, but that's my style anyway. I'll just call it a test of law enforcement knowledge.

3/16" black beading for putting the fenders on.

Comes in 25' roll. $12.

Thomas, I'll check to see how much I've got. If I have extra, I'll send you enough to do your two fenders.

Thomas,
My fenders a 32" across. The Arc measure 51" . You should need 8' 6" - 9'.
Correct?

Thomas,

Let us know how this works and take plenty of pics. I'm about three months away from having to do this myself.

Thanks, Tom

You bet, I'll let you know how I mount them, although with your fiberglass fenders, not sure how relevant that might be, but you never know what you can take away from something. I am looking forward to getting these on, I am hoping for Beavers band but it's not a goal.. OK maybe it is but I won't miss anything if I miss it :)

Thomas, I just re-read your post and realized that you said you were going to use a bracket to attach your fenders to the frame. I will probably bolt through walls (even the though that thought doesn't sit right with me). What I was curious was how to fasten/attach the fender welt. I saw the link that showed how they used contact cement to hold it to the truck fender before the fender was bolted, but I didn't know if the contact cement was a "permanent" or "temporary" method. I've thought about weatherstrip adhesive, but maybe all you need to do is keep the fender welt in place until the fender is cinched up.

See ya at Beavers Bend,

Tom

Great Build!!!

Thomas, I have read and re-read your thread. I've done several old cars but looking at your build I'm convinced to get out of the tent and into a TD. As others have said your craftsmanship is outstanding. Along with others you have inspired me to get the tools unpacked and go to work. I've downsized my shop but kept all my tools so getting organized and cutting are just days away. Thanks for the inspiration!!! John
