pictures of TD with swing out counters?

Postby d_lairson » Sun Mar 07, 2010 3:01 pm

In my trolling of the forum I came across a TD that has counters in the galley that swing out, with a stove on one side and a sink on the other, and for the life of me I cannot find it again. I wanted to show it to my wife because I thought it was a good idea. If anyone can help me locate the pictures again that would be great

Bob Henrey has a setup like that. If you go to the Midwest treads you will find him posting there. Look at the Hooser tread for the spring meeting.

We did something like that too. I don't have a good, recent pic, but here's the one that we have in our album. Its a little dated, but shows the countertops well.

We've always intended to make the counter go all the way across the back, but that will have to wait until we get a chance to do the second one.

Thanks, you all have great ideas the only problem is that the sides of the galley are foam and I have no hard points. The shelf has to be anchored on the floor. It can have a pivot point then the actual shelf edge can rest on the floor. I have looked on line and everything I find so far is side mounted, I think I will drill a hole in floor and shelf, from the bottom put a bolt through a washer then little pipe through the floor and the shelf then put on a washer then nut. So far that is a suggestion made by my neighbor after seeing it up close. I looked on line and can't really find any already made type hinge. The wood would slide on the pipe or the pipe will just turn in the wood on the bolt. I will build the shelf tomorrow I found an old cabinet door solid plywood taken off some very old cabinets. I can trim it down and just try my idea out, maybe it will work. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. :applause: :applause: :applause:

It's a real joy to cook in with 10 foot of counter space in a 5 foot wide trailer.

There are many other pics of it in use in my album ( better start at the back ) 146 pages takes a while to get there otherwise

Here is an early building shot Image

Here was our very first outing the 08 shivaree (-15 wind chill ) Note that the stove is pointed to the driver's side this way it make a very friendly 2 person kitchen with no one in the others way.

When the counter swings up it becomes the pantry door to hold the spices and such in place. The underside holds the tops to my little cheapy x leg tables for even more counterspace.

Wow, Bobhenry.. that would be a lot of counter.. Question on that, does the counter fold down with the swing outs still "in" or only when its all open? I was thinking about a quick sandwich break at the rest area or the like. I also see where a set of doors on the "back side" of the swing outs could make for quick access. Really like the look and style of your rig. Been reading quite a bit, and noticed that you are everywhere in this forum.. Awesome builds. :applause:

I guess if I cut a hole for the faucet it could :rofl2:

Ok I'll be serious now. The counter actually planes out with the other tops by resting on a stop a little shorter than the counter height. It serves to lock the flip out counters at their 90 degree position.

That is what I plan on doing..Swing outs, and the sink will drop in and the faucet will have a quick disconnect..for campsites with full hookups..
These don't swing out but you get the just of the idea...

I really like this slide-out/flip-out idea, but it would take a significant amount of work to make it function properly.
The unit slides out, then the support extends further and the countertop flips over it.

Instead of a continuous hinge, you could also use a "twin pin sewing machine hinge" to make it flush across the counter without the traditional hinge's bump.

Apologies for not giving credit to the builder, I forget which thread it was from.
