Need more clamps....Need more clamps....

Postby Alfred » Fri Mar 12, 2010 3:53 pm

Geez, does anyone ever get enough clamps?

I bought some awhile back, then went back and bought a couple more, then borrowed a couple from a friend, now I'm thinking, "hmmm, maybe I'll pick up a couple of more clamps".

I mean, I can understand the addiction to Cast Iron, Coleman products and Teardrops, but now I'm hooked on buying clamps? Stop the insanity! (Grin)

HF Trailer

Postby Larry C » Fri Mar 12, 2010 5:20 pm

Alfred,
Actually I am building a 5x8 Ultralight Stripper. I just started my Build Journal. It's under "Ultralight Stripper" in the Build Journals. I don't have much finished yet, but I have started.
Actually I bought the trailer to use as a utility trailer. I couldn't pass up the price. The stub axles alone (without wheels) for my Tear will cost more than I paid for the HF 1195# complete trailer. I will use it as a folding utility trailer, stored in my garage.

I went to HF yesterday to buy a folding wheel for the tongue. I came away with every 2 1/2 inch clamp they had plus some other clamps. I got home and said "crap I forgot the folding wheel!" This morning I got the paper and there was a 20% coupon in there so back I went. I was going to buy more clamps, but they were still out. But I did get the folding wheel.

I am ready to buy a trailer for my first build-a Generic Benroy. The Benroy plans call for a 5x8 trailer and recommend Harbor Freight. I don't see a Harbor Freight 5x8 listed other than one with sides on it. Anybody know which one it is?

Ooops! I see "Red Trailer" is a name, not a description. It looks like the Red is the recommended one.

Trailer options

Postby Alfred » Wed Mar 17, 2010 8:31 am

Northern Tool has a great 5x8 trailer for somewhere around $300. It is not in their catalog, it is an in-the-store item only. You might consider theirs, too. It is what I used for mine.

I pulled the trigger and picked up the 1720 lb Harbor Freight trailer yesterday for $310 with tax. It's on sale (20% off) according to the website but it's not in any advertisement I found. I also used a 20% off coupon. (another 20% off for a total of 36% off.)

Here is an online coupon good until the end of 2010.

I thought it looked fake since the dates are not the same size digits. But, it's from their own site.

Not only did they take the coupon, but a guy working a register offered me one not knowing I already gave one to the girl who rang me up at a different register.

I guess I officially started build #1. Next parts trip will be to Skycraft Surplus.
