The build is looking really good.

Is it a coincidence that URABUS is SUBARU backwards?

Thanks Al! The name might eventually change... I've been thinkin of some other ideas. And nope, its no coincidence.... I'm a Subaru fanatic :eyebrows:

I actually came up with the livery when I was watching some old Subaru rally racing videos. The name Colin McRae ring a bell?

My girlfriend skipped town for a couple days to go help her sister so I've been quite productive! Last night I started stretching my plywood. I don't have a fancy router so I used dowels and lots of glue. The joint will be reinforced by the galley shelf, so it will be nice and strong in the end.

Image

Today I stretched the other side wall, and today my Dad came to lend a hand again! We managed to get the profile and the door opening laid out on the one side, and began cutting! Look... we still have our thumbs!!

Image

After the profile and opening were cut, we test fit the door. Everything fit perfectly!

Image

And at this point, I just had to prop the side up on the trailer to catch a glimpse of the future. Jessica just got back from Pittsburgh, so her and Fred came to check out the progress! In the end, the walls are going to sit on the outside of the trailer frame rails, so the profile will be about 4" lower than seen here.

Image

I'm hopeful to get the other side cut out tomorrow. This week I plan on getting the trailer registered, and to start sealing and staining wood.

Thanks Bill!

I got the other side cut out last night. Today will be spent cleaning the apartment and then doing lots of sanding in the garage!

What kind of paint did you use on the back of the frame? I was thinking the same thing today as I finished my frame and said, man that is really red!

HAHA yeah the frame is REALLY red. And I've heard of some of the Harbor Freight frames turning pink after a lot of exposure to the sun.

Its the Rustoleum Hammered Spray paint.... I can't remember which color... either the brown, or the dark Bronze. And of course, I sprayed primer first.

I'm taking the trailer to get inspected tomorrow at lunch, but wanted to be able to start test fitting panels within the next few days.

Tonight I notched the bottom of the sides, so that they can fit around the suspension brackets. Also drilled out a few bolt holes where the sides will be attached to the frame.

Can't get the trailer inspected until Tuesday. The first place I was going to go wanted to charge $200. They FAIL. Found another place that will do it for $32. In the meantime I'll be sealing, painting, and staining the wood.

Also, my remote lighting control unit finally got here yesterday! Its a lot smaller than I expected, and the company I ordered it from claim that it will work on 12VDC. I'll try to test it out this weekend.

Zack-

You are just getting the trailer frame inspected right?

Don't make it more complicated than it has to be.

Just get the trailer frame registered as a utility trailer AND then build on it....

...And for God's sake don't tell 'em your building a Teardrop on that frame!!!

TRUST me it's a real PITA to do anything else in PA.

Do a search here about registering in PA.

Good Luck!

Cheers,

Coop

Yeah, thats the plan Coop. The only thing thats going to be attached to the frame during inspection is the plywood deck. Until inspection is done, I'll just be staining and painting the other parts of teardrop.

Tonight I got a coat of CPES put on the sides. WOW does that stuff stink!! I gotta leave my garage door cracked overnight (and probably tomorrow) in hopes that it airs out a little. I brushed on the CPES outside the garage and allowed it to dry as long as possible, but they still have quite the odor!!

No inspection needed here in Ohio just need to have it weight then off to get tags.
I have heard PA has some different rules.

Great day to be outside working on the TD today! Got both side panels primed on the outside face, using Kilz Premium Primer.

Also started working on the galley hatch. I dont have the skin for the hatch yet, but had enough wood to get the framework done.
