Working on the galley - 3/14/2010

Postby Alfred » Sun Mar 14, 2010 8:50 pm

Hey Gang,

Starting our Winter thaw here in Western NC, which brings one's mind back to camping and working on the camper!

My friend David from the T&TTT list came over and worked on it with me yesterday, I'm taking a break now from working on it some tonight. We have been working on the galley counter and access to the storage area below. Here are the pictures!

The smaller opening to the left accesses behind the power converter, where the battery box will be stored.

The opening to the right will hold the chuckbox and/or other camping gear!

Looks good!

Looks great Al! Those lights in the interior put off a nice colored light that works well with the interior. Also...just thought I'd mention...there is a plastic chromed bezel that will fit those taillights. I got them for my build, and it appears that we have the same lights. Just a 5$ part, but will dress it up a bit if you want. Doug

Thanks, Doug! Where did you get the bezel? The taillights were a clearance item at Harbor Freight a couple of months ago.

I found them at a larger RV supply house, but they are manufactured by Peterson. It's a 4". Don't know about the interior of your lights, but mine were black. I took them apart, masked off the bulb housing and outer trim ring, scuffed the interior and shot it in white out of a rattle can. They put out a ton of light now, kinda wimpy before and I want people to see me. Keep up the good work! Doug

Hey Al,
Those interior lights put off a "Welcomed Glow"! Looking great, will you be ready for Racoon Holler?

Hey John,

When is Raccoon Holler this year - In May again? I didn't see a thread for this years plans? I sure would like to bring it, even if unfinished and kept under the easy-up canopy, need to get it sealed up and painted first. I don't know if May is realistic, but we'll see. Certainly something to shoot for.

3/22/10 - Small progress

Postby Alfred » Mon Mar 22, 2010 4:43 pm

Hey gang,

Just a quick note made some small progress this weekend, installed the other red lantern inside. Did a little small work on the galley area.

By the way, I want to post a little shout-out for Grant at L'il Bear - I contacted him for some customer service help on something I ordered and needed to exchange, I won't go into it except to say it was my fault for not ordering the right thing to begin with, but he was very accommodating in working it out for me to return the wrong part and get the right one, and I would never hesitate to do business with him again, and can highly recommend his willingness to work with me on it.

Thanks! AL in Asheville

Al, I would recommend that you place the windows near where your head will be when you sleep. Being able to see a window, and even better, to look outside without getting up really helps avoid a claustrophobic feeling in a small sleeping space.

Hi CD,

Thanks for the recommendation. I have windows for the doors, which will be near our heads when we sleep. The side windows in the walls will be near the kids. There is also a front window. I wanted lots of windows to prevent feeling claustrophobic, also want to assure ample ventilation.

Me and my crew working on the camper

Postby Alfred » Sat Mar 27, 2010 10:59 pm

Hey Gang,

Me and my crew worked on the camper today. Got the divider into the storage area below the countertop in the galley area.

Here is my crew:

Tomorrow, if the weather stays nice like today, I am going to try out the epoxy sealant for the first time!

(Addendum - Weather turned out rainy and soggy. Looks like will have to wait a little while longer to try the epoxy sealant)

Looks good Al and it appears that you have an adequate crew to help and they look like they are all enthused with the build....as a side note...pull the tags off the clamps...kinda gives you that Minnie Pearl look!  Your build indicates you're much more than that. Doug
