Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Postby SirJoey » Mon Mar 15, 2010 3:57 pm

After a brief hiatus, I resumed work, & got a tiny bit more done today...

Installed eyebolt lock loop. Nylock nut inside trailer prevents eyebolt from being unscrewed
on the outside. Not totally theft-proof of course, but then nothing really is, IMO.
This 1/2" cable should at least make for a SMALL deterrent anyway. Better than nothing...

Tire cover finally arrived! With lock loop & tire cover both
installed, another minor milestone is finally reached:

Next comes flooring. After that, it'll be time to start on some actual construction...

Except for needing a trim piece at the rear, I got the floor finished!

It's finally beginning to lose that "cargo trailer" look! :dancing
Whenever they arrive, the 2nd set of mini-blinds will help, too.

Its looking good.. The spare tire holder/lock turned out good. I have the same outlook. Locks are just to keep the honest people honest.. If someone really wants something, They will find way. At the very least the more you can slow them down the better. Someone unbolting a spare might not garnish much attention, Someone Cutting a steel cable to remove spare Might atleast get noticed lol..

Thanx, dude! Still got a long way to go, though. :designing:

Agreed! They'd also have to have something on hand to cut with.
With no lock at all, however, all they'd need is a wrench.

Found this thing in my junk pile. Made up a
bunch of little jumper wires & attached 'em.

Image

Sawed it apart... should make for a suitable ground block for my 12-volt stuff.

Cut a drain hole in a 5-qt, stainless mixing bowl, & attached drain hardware.

Image

Gonna choke the drain down to a little 3/4" PVC pipe, thus the big, ugly "adaptor".

Image

I hope to be installing this contraption in the not-too-distant future.
Unfortunately, due to the flat bottom, it's never gonna drain completely,
but $11 for a stainless "sink", isn't a bad price, nevertheless.

During the last few days, I've made some serious headway on the wall unit.

It's certainly nothing special, but it should serve the purpose.

Next, I have to ATTEMPT to fabricate some kind of quasi-cabinet doors, buy some kind of
cabinet hardware to attach 'em, paint the whole thing, & anchor it to the wall & floor.

I'm really intimidated by the very thought of trying to cobble together some kind of
cabinet doors, but so far, I've had no luck finding any pre-made ones the right size,
so it looks like I have no choice but to ATTEMPT it, clueless though I am... :?

Hey guys, a little advice over here, please?

I'm considering making the cabinet doors out of pine boards, as opposed to plywood.
If I go this route, any suggestions on the thickness? I'm thinking 3/8" might be thick
enough, but I really don't know.

Also, will pine be sufficient, or do I need to use a hardwood? Opinions? Advice? Thanx!

I've seen some nice pine cabinet doors, and i think 3/8" is plenty. Check out the galley gallery.

Thanx, Cliff! That's quite an impressive collection of images you've amassed there!
There's just SO much INCREDIBLE work done here, it's at once inspiring, & humbling!

I'd be ashamed to open my doors next to most of these dazzling creations,
and to think, mine's just a simple CONVERSION!

I see why you named him after me, Cliff.
We DO share a certain family resemblance!
:rofl2:

Seriously though, glad your little buddy pulled through okay.
I'm rather attached to mine as well!

I have been watching your build with a lot of interest. You have done a great job in a short space of time. I suspect I will adapt some of your ideas as I complete my build (when I really get it started, I will post some pictures).

I like your wall unit. With the footprint that you are dealing with, it appears to me that the wall unit is taking up 12 or 13 inches of floor space. If that is the case, then doors on your wall unit might be somewhat useless. You might not be able to open them fully (unless you are also building a Murphy bed that folds up against the front wall). Perhaps you might want to consider sliders? They are a much more efficient use of space.
Best,
