My parents bought a new 1961 VW Micro-bus, 21? window model

it came equiped with almost the identical, rack as Grant has at L'il Bear

affraid that the VW was traded after I went in the Coast Guard in '66

but that same rack was used almost continuously until only about two years ago, ran out of vehicles with gutters, but I still have the rack.

Oh, it also had a red and white stripped cabana that mounted over the side passenger door, I have looked, but cannot find a photo of the cabana in use, I'll have to get a copy from my parents, it would have worked great for the tear. It was much like the shower curtain set-ups that are getting popular around here.

Sorry for the hijack, I'd made the connection, when I first saw that rack at L'il Bear last year, but this thread brought it to mind.

I haven't compared prices with Yakima, or Thule, but the brackets curve out a bit more than some of the off the shelf brands. These are from Lil Bear Teardrops. The rack and brackets can be purchased separately.

Those are a brand called "Quick and Easy" or something like that. I got them from a kayak store. They work easy, never had them fail. But they only accept their pipes, which aren't as sturdy as Yakima or Thule's. I've bent them with two 12 foot boats loaded.
