Our first build

Postby whiteheadfisher » Wed Mar 24, 2010 10:25 pm

My wife and I will be celebrating our 30th anniversary next year so we wanted to take a 2 week trip out west to see the mountains and the Pacific.
We balked at staying in hotels all that time, so we have decided to build our own teardop. It will be a 5X8 built on a trailer frame my son and built. I am a designer by trade so I am in the process of creating the drawings for the TD. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you on this forum for the great ideas. As I learn how to post pics here, i will be glad to share the build as it progresses. The trailer frame is ready for wheels now. I need advice on how to get it registered. Where do I go in our county to do this?[/b]

Welcome.... we're just down the road from you in Smyrna....

I posted this in your other thread about the inspection/registration.... and sent you a PM with my phone number if you have any questions.

Call the TN Dept of Safety and tell them you need to get a homebuilt trailer inspected.

http://www.state.tn.us/safety/

There is a form to fill out and mail in (I can't find the form OR get there web site to work very well.) I think the fee is $25.00.

Here's the Form http://www.tennessee.gov/safety/forms/h ... cation.pdf

After they receive your application a State Trooper will contact you and set up an appointment (mine was from the weigh station in Robertson County).

It's really not a hassle at all. He will stamp a serial number on the tongue and then you can go get your registration/tags.

Welcome aboard, Whiteheadfisher. It is a requirement of this board that those that make a teardrop trip to the Pacific coast, MUST swing by and visit me in So Calif. The coffee is always on, and plenty of whitehead fish in the freezer..........Naw, just kidding about that last part.
:? 8) Roly ~~
